Custom Energy Bars Giveaway
>> Monday, July 12, 2010
It’s July. And July is giveaway month. Two weeks ago, I gave away some Ryders shades and a Moxie Sugoi skirt. Last week, it was a New Balance “Anti-Stink” shirt. Now, it’s time for a delicious giveaway. And all you need to do to be entered is to comment with how you would make this the most delicious for you....
Element Bars are a new granola bar / endurance bar that is on the market. When you go to their website, you can build a bar that fits you perfectly. You get to choose from 30 natural and organic ingredients for your bars, such as blueberries, cranberries, cashews, and honey.
When you start building a bar, your first step is to choose a core:
Then you go through and add any optional fruits, nuts, sweets, and boosts. The thing I liked about doing this is that the nutritional information for the bar that you’re making is always updating every time you add or subtract an ingredient. Here’s my bar near completion, and you can see the nutritional info on the right:
Blueberry Repair, Cranberry Crunch, and Cherry Charge
Every bar has it’s nutritional info printed on it - even if it’s a custom bar you made yourself
So the people at Element Bars are giving one of my readers a box of 12 custom bars (over a $30.00 value).
HERE’S HOW TO ENTER TO WIN:
• Step 1 (optional): to earn +1 extra entry: “Follow” my blog with Google Friend Connect. Find the follow button near the top of the right-side side-bar. If you already “follow” my blog, that still counts as an extra entry!
• Step 2 (optional): to earn +1 extra entry: If you twitter, send out this tweet:
I just entered the delicious @elementbars giveaway on @SteveinaSpeedo’s blog - http://iwannagetphysical.blogspot.com/
• Step 3: Comment on this post to be entered. Leave a comment about what kind of bar you would design. What would be in it? Why? Also let me know if you "follow" me and if you tweeted so that I know if I should throw your name in the hat 2 or 3 times.
• Step 4: Check back next Monday or Tuesday to see if you’ve won.
See? Couldn’t be easier. Oh, but a little amendment to Step 3: You do NOT need to be a blogger to comment, but make sure to leave some specific info so you’ll know if you won. So you could say something like this: “Hey Steve, this John Smith from Topeka, and I'd make a bar full of berries! And I DIDN'T follow your blog, but I DID send out a tweet, so throw my name in the hat 2 times! Thanks!”
The fine print:
- Contest open to US and Canadian residents.
- You may comment now (on THIS post) through 10 pm Central time on Saturday, July 17th. The winner will be contacted late on Sunday or Monday.
- The winner will be chosen at random by a random number generator, drawing numbers out of a hat, or other random selection processs.
- Check back this Monday or Tuesday (July 19 or 20) to see if you won! (Especially if you don’t have a blogger account because I have no way of contacting you.)
- If I don’t hear back from the winner within 2 days after posting that they’ve won, I’ll draw another name and give the shirt to someone else.
Thanks Element Bars for the delicious giveaway!! So comment below with how YOU’D design YOUR bar to be entered!!! (And make sure to note if you earned any "extra" entries!) Thanks everyone!

Thanks for another great (and delicious sounding giveaway). Im a blog follower and tweeted....please throw my name into the hat three times.
Hi Steve! I'm commenting and I follow your blog so put me in for 2 entries.
I would make a Pro Crispy bar with apricots, almonds and omega-3.
Hey, Steve!
I would make a vegan organic bar.
I followed your blog, Tweeted, and commented. should be 3 entries.
Hope I get a chance to make that bar!
Hiiii! I subscribe to your blog on my google reader but I'm not sure if that counts. Anyway, here's a comment just in case. I would make something with a 50-25-25 CHO-fat-protein ratio. Probably involving blueberries and almonds. Yummmm. --Emily from STL, MO!
Steve -- I follow, I've tweeted, and I've prepared my order of a Pro Crispy core with cran and blue berries, honey, and flax seeds. Looks good enough I may buy it if I don't win! Put me down for three entries, please.
Heya Steve,
I went designed a pre-race bar. Pro Crispy Core, cinnamon, pumpkin seeds, bananas and cherries, rounded out with 7 g's of soy protein. Went with organic ingredients as much as possible because that's what Michael Pollen would do. Throw +2 as I retwitted and I follow the blog. I even have you linked into my blog because you're Hilarius!

I would get a Pro Chewie with Cherries, walnuts, honey, and protein. Yummie!!
Kevin Jacobs
Hi Steve
3 entries for me please :)
I think Pro Oaty with almond, cranberries, banana and honey would be my choice!
I follow as a google friend and I am commenting.... so those are my entries :)
I would create a chocolate peanut butter oat bar. Mainly because I love ressees cups :)
I'd make a bar without almonds. I can't eat them and it's actually not that easy to find bars without them!
Where are the WIBA photos? That's what I came here for...(sigh!)
Cheryl, WIBA photos are coming soon! I have a few hundred to get through!!!....
Check back tomorrow...
Followed, tweeted, and commented.
I'm actually excited to see these bars. I've got hypoglycemia + some very funky doctor-ordered diet restrictions. You try finding a protein bar with no soy or chocolate. It isn't easy! Well, until now it wasn't!
I'd likely get the a bar with the following:
Pro fruity or oaty
Apricots
Cherries
Almonds
Flax
Agave
Whey protein
I follow, I've commented, 2 entries please!
How would I make this? Crispy, lots of almonds, flax, some berries if I was feeling crazy that day, and love. I'm sure love is one of their ingredient right?
P.S. This would be a great present for me to win on Monday as a congrats on my first Tri on Sunday! Eeeek!
I follow, I tweeted and I made myself a bar with cherries, blueberries, almonds, dark chocolate and whey protein. YUM ... I think.
nice site! reminds me of a custom granola site....anyway, i tweeted about the contest (feel funny doing it, because it potentially lowers my chances (like i have any tweet followers!).
if i were to make a bar, it would have blueberries, soy protein, a bit chewy, and some honey.
thanks for this!
oh, yes, i am already a stalker...err....follower. when do we get to drink the Kool-Aid?

I follow you on Google Friend Connect, I've commented here, but I don't do the Twitter, so that's 2 entries for me.
My bar has lots of bananas because Katie doesn't like bananas. That way, I can be sure she wouldn't eat them. I hope she doesn't read these comments too closely...
I follow your blog via RSS feed. Not sure if that counts for an extra entry.
But I would go with Oatmeal, bananna, blueberries and other fruit.
This is genius! If I had to make a bar, it would definatly be a recovery bar - I am in constant search for good post-workout nutrition that is both good and good for me. I would put in a ton of good protien, and mix it up with some sweet fruits, like blueberries and maybe a touch of banana and peach. Love it!!
I am Tweeting, and I also follow you in the side bar box - does that count? Thanks Steve!!
Hey Steve, I follow your blog (with the button thing) and I'm commenting, but no tweets, so 2 entries.
My bar would be a pro crispy with blueberries. And Matt's right - if there are bananas in them, I won't touch 'em!
I follow you!
I tweeted! (ahem...excuse me)
Oatmeal, cranberry, almond, flax, whey protein!
yummmoooo
blueberries, cashews, dark chocolate, whey protein!!!
I follow your blog :)
I tweeted!
@BarefootAngieBee
Count me in for 3 entries!
I tweeted and am a follower.
I would let my hubby choose his bar ingredients if we won.
With so many options, I couldn't even start to guess what he would choose!
Lots of nuts and fruits though for sure!
I just followed you! I would build a pro chewy with apricots, agave, almonds and whey protein.
I'm starting with the pro-crispy core, then throwing in a set of blueberries and bananas with some flaxseeds. To top it all off, I'm satisfying my sweet tooth with dark chocolate, pumpkin spice, agave syrup, honey, and cinnamon. Yeaaaaaa, I really like sweets. I rarely do solid bars during races but I'd be a sucker for these things a couple hours before a big race.
P.S. I follow you.
P.P.S. That sounds kind of creepy.
i would go a pro chewy core, almonds and dark chocolate. :)
I am a follower and tweeted @erica_h
Hey Steve - I'm already a follower of your blog,
Here's my comment hoping I win these neat customizable bars. I LOVE this kind of stuff and am totally going to fiddle around on their website in the hopes of making THE. BEST. BAR. IN. THE. UNIVERSE.
these bars sound great! I love the idea of being able to customize them. I would definitely have some almonds and dried cherries in mine. Probably dark chocolate too, because that's the kind of girl I am!
great giveaway!
I follow your blog.
I think these bars would be yummy with fruit and dark chocolate. I'd try to keep them lower in calories with no added sugar!
I think that's 2 entries. I don't have a twitter account, but I do have a blog: thefirerunner.blogspot.com so I'll post your contest there.
3 entries for me. I follow your blog and I tweeted.
Would love some with cherries, almonds and dark chocolate!! :) Yum.

Hi Steve, I just started following your blog and I setup a twitter account and tweeted the appropriate text to get those two extra entries. Hope I win as I'm looking forward to creating a yummy peanut butter flavored bar, maybe with some chocolate chips.
Rock on for this awesome giveaway.
This is Stefanie and I follow your blog so put me in the hat for two entries.
I put so many items into my bar that they told me I should limit my ingredients. :) Guess I got a little happy!
I follow your blog and commented (2 entries for me please).
I'd make a pro-oaty bar with almonds, flax seeds, blueberries, honey and soy protein for post workout!
commenting here, and as long as I can squeeze some chocolate into that bar, I'm good to go.
I built a bar on their site! it had a blueberry base + cranberries + flax + whey protein. I chose this because I'm always looking for more protein in a bar AND this combo had relatively low sugar.
I'm following you through Google Friend Connect.
I tweeted about it.
2 entries please, I'm a follower. :)
I'd have a hard time deciding! A pre-workout or post-workout bar....protein....cherries.....almonds....oh my.....
Thank you for this opportunity Steve. I just finished the Life Time Fitness Triathlon this past weekend and messed up my nutrition in a major way.
I added you to Google Friends, so put me in for two entries.
I'd add blueberries in my blueberry fruity core. Sweetened with some honey and boosted with Omega-3, Flaxseed, and Glucosamine.
I would make a bar with a little bit of everything because that is just how I roll! Yep...I am a greedy little mo fo! : )
Oh and also, I follow your blog and if I knew how to tweet then I would have done that as well...but I don't so I didn't.
I would make something that tastes as much like junk food as possible!

I would do some delicious honey bluberrry mix on the softer chewier side with lots of protein and a decent amount of carbs, low in fat! I Twitted you (I mean, what?), I posted a shout out on Twitter, I follow your blog, and I'm commenting now (and I'm your favorite race directors helper). I'd like to win, just saying...
Ok Steve I followed Step 1 and am following your blog (but I think I already was...oh well, you can never get to much Steve in a Speedo!!); then I followed Step 2 and I tweeted your message at 3:07pm); and now on to Step 3...
Hi Steve, this is Stephanie from Ohio (soon to be from NC)...
mmm Element Custom Energy Bars, Pro Crispy Core, Cherries, Blueberries, Banananananas, Walnuts, Honey, DARK Chocolate, Glucosamine/Chondroitin.
