Friday Funny 25: Random (AND A QUESTION)
>> Friday, February 27, 2009
Make sure to read the “Comments” section at the bottom of this car ad closely:
“...may require some light interior cleaning.” HA!
So maybe someone has a photo of themselves with their bike helmet on backwards from their first triathlon (I've seen that happen). Or maybe they're super awkward in their suit at their first swim meet. Maybe, out of nowhere, they won their first 5K. Or came in dead last. Or started jogging to lose weight, and have lost 100 pounds and changed their life. You get the idea...
Here’s where you can help out. Right now, the best title for the contest that I’ve come up with is “Best Newbie Story & Embarrassing Photo Combo.” That title sucks. You now know the idea of the contest (so you should start digging up an old photo). What’s a better idea for the title? Can you help me out? Do you have any ideas?
For your time, I’ve got one last funny. This one’s good. Can you guess what the magician in this magazine ad is advertising?

Viagra.
Did you guess it? Good stuff!
I suppose the "highway gangbang in da butt contest" would be completely inappropriate?
Any plans for dome running next week?
Does Sharting myself during my first Ironman count as funny?
It wasn't at the time!
That car ad and the Cookie Monster pic are fantastic!
Title--"How I (fill in the blank) and Lived to Tell About It!"
I did guess Viagra! HA!!!
Ok, digging for old photos...
i'm thinking: Most Inspiring Virgin Racer Story
mine can be copied from my welcome message from the blog and add photos. nobody else needs to enter, i tell ya.
The Official I Won This Kick Ass Prize from Steve for Being a Total Embarrassment to Myself, My Family, and Quite Possibly My Country At My First Race Contest
Or the OIWTKAPFSFBATETMMF&QPMYAMYR Contest
Thanks for the morning smiles!
Just don't use the word newbie! Ugh. I hate that word! :)
It's not "extreme everything," it's "EXXXTReme everything." Because the extra X-es totally make it super hardcore.
I can't decide if this kid wants to be an urban hipster who loves indie rock (think Sufjan Stevens) or a preppy chinos-wearing country-club type.
What I'd really like to know, however, is what's underneath the scribbles. What was originally thought to be cool but then was not?
I'm totally on board with the newbie story plus embarrassing picture contest. I can't decide if I will use a picture from my gawky braces-wearing big-hair late 1980s cross country season, or something from when I started running again two years ago and still weighed over 200 lbs...
"First Time Follies: Pictures to prove you CAN learn from your mistakes (and look incredibly dumb at the same time)"
You could call it your FTF contest!
Of course, I'm not sure if I could participate.. I didn't tell anyone I started running until I was over a year in! By that time I had totally worked out all the kinks.
Great idea for a contest! Can't think of any creative names just yet, but will throw any I think of your way.
Thanks for this Steve! Every friday, I send a link to your blog to the guys in my dept and they LOVE it!!! You bring a little happiness to our dark little cube world :)
The tetris cartoon got me. I know that feeling.
Contest name...how about, The "Been There, Done That, Felt Like an Ass" Contest.
Contest title: Humiliate yourself publicly more than you already did?
Laughing at Ambercroombie & Flitch.
Happy weekend!
That Ways to Be Cool list cracks me up. It seems like they don't quite fit together, so I wonder if you have to do them all to be cool, or if there is just a minimum amount of participation. And what's so cool about Williamsburg?
About the contest- it sounds totally fun, but I'm plum out of creative ideas for a name. Although I do like Lauren's suggestion, ha ha.
Maybe it could be "I Must Be Good if I Was Honored on Steve's Blog and Allowed to be Presented to His Readers"- or maybe that would just be on the winner's certificate, LOL.
Oh, and love the icky car ad and the Cookie Monster!
I like the virgin idea...like...
Tales of a Virgin Athlete Contest
I need to learn to speak European...I am not cool enough till I do that.
The car ad cracked me up.
Oh....embarrassing running stories....where do I begin.
That list to be cool gave me some good direction for my next hair cut. Sweet!
And I figured it would be viagra - what else could it possibly be?! :)
YEs i love cookie monster!!!
I want to be in the contest. I need to go look through my old photos.
HAPPY FRIDAY!
poor cookie monster. i can't believe that car is only selling for 1200, it's totally worth more than that.
"learn to speak European" - awesome.
Is that bad that I guessed Viagra? I guess that's were my mind tends to wonder. It's pretty sad that that tetris comic made me laugh out loud more than any of the others.
that car is a bargain! Herpes aside, of course.
I loved the cookie monster picture, and of course the car ad.
No ideas for the contest, I am NOT creative. But, it sounds great!
maybe the car can be featured on pimp my ride. i can only imagine the stuff they could do with it.
as for the contest? it's friday and i'm tired. plenty of other good ideas above.
LOL! Thanks for the Friday laughs :)
I'm not creative to think of snazzy titles, but I do have to look for the pic of my first/last tri.
Oooh I look forward to the embarassing stories! How about "The Dufus Diaries" or "Assy McFirsttimer" or "Captian JackAss" I dunno. Have a great weekend! :)
Btw, awesome interval workout in your previous post! :O You're speeeeedy.
Hi Steve
Sounds like a great contest. NOt sure what the name should be, but I know you will come up with a good one. Awesome list BTW. I especially like "mowhawk". Sweet.
I like Lauren's idea.
As far as the viagra, the pill allows you to get a rise for your woman. So bad!
Can't wait to hear about Coz.
best "start up"?
i have a pic from my 1st triathlon, can't wait to participate in this one.
LOL I kinda like Assy McFirstimer Contest. Hahaha
Or The "I'm still racing despite THIS story" contest. What a great idea!
I also vote Assy McFirstimer!
It's late, but here are a few titles for the contest after extensive brainstorming:
...
“Swimming in bike shorts”
“Tri this”
Running against the pack
Running with wolves
“Bibs”
“First Bib”
“Unfolding an athlete”
“Holding our own”
“First flight”
“Odd paces and places”
“Absolute beginners”
“Catastrophic beginnings”
“Is this on backwards”?
“Impractical attire”
“Upside down, inside out”
“The Blossoming Novice”
"Did that REALLY happen?-Funny stories from the back of the pack."
All are very funny!
Gang bang in the butt eh? Not tested on animals... eh?
Let me sit on the name for a bit, it may come to me.
I think you should have two contest, Funny and inspirational. What happen to the goofy young athlete picture contest? Did I miss that one?
