>> Friday, January 01, 2021
I love it when Structure Tech posts their best home inspection photos for the year. (They are a local home inspection company, and they are a hoot to follow on Facebook. AND I've learned a few things along the way as well.) Here's their best of 2020, along with their captions:
Not a bright idea:
I’ll take my clothes broiled, thank you:

DIY vanity. Let’s hope someone got those drain connections right, because there is no way to access anything underneath it:
The last home inspector’s report, we’re assuming: “There was a gap between the sidewalk and the foundation. Install a garter snake, if necessary, and fill the gap with a polyurethane caulk to help prevent water intrusion between the sidewalk and foundation:”
Yikes. That’s live knob & tube wiring being used to support the ductwork. Again, yikes:
Captain Jean-Luc Picard still insists there are only four lights:
When we have to crawl to the farthest reaches of an attic or crawlspace, we like to leave a business card to show we were there. Apparently, we’re not alone. This business card, left by someone at The HomeTeam Inspection Service, features a pager number. Kudos to them:
Only the boldest, most daring DIYers will attempt the flying trapeze electrical splice:
In a time before writing, cave dwellers would draw pictures to organize their garage. This pictogram says where to put the gas cans:

Now that’s an awesome laundry chute:

If you liked those, here the links to the last few years of their "Top 20" from each year: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
