Final Spring Classic Duathlon Thoughts
>> Saturday, June 21, 2025
The FINAL running (and biking) of the Oakdale Spring Classic Duathlon was held nearly 2 weeks ago, and I managed to take the lead 5 seconds into the race and not look back. My runs were HOT, and I didn't give it a full 100% in the final run. (I'm a little disappointed in that - I should have been using it as a hard training day if nothing else!)
And the big "question mark" for the day was how I'd do on the bike. I haven't been riding hard consistently this spring and summer, and I felt that a little out there. But because I hit the wrong button on my Garmin, I also had my mind elsewhere on the ride. D'oh.
Here's what the overall "multisport activity" looked like according to my Garmin:
Run the blue loop, bike the big red square, and run the blue loop again.
The screwed up T2 (actually the start of the run) because I hit the wrong
button earlier in the day when it was trying to get me back to my phone.
I'll have some race photos to post on Monday, so check back for those! In those, you'll see that the 2nd runner in to T1 was just 67 seconds behind me, but I had no sight of him. I would have been more scared if I had seen him! But then he had a worse ride to fall back to 3rd, but then he out-ran the biker who passed him to take 2nd overall.
Us top 3 were all in the 40-49 age group, so the poor Dad who was 5th overall and was racing with his teenage son (the son finished 4th overall) was also in his 40s and took home NOTHING for being 5th overall. Dang!!
Anyway, here's my race report if you missed it, and check back on Monday for lots of fun race photos!
