Ahhh, It’s Been Too Long...

So it’s time for some gross foot photos!

But first, a BIG THANKS to all of you regarding your kind comments on my last post. I DO really know that the slower-than-usual run was due to the conditions. Hopefully I can bust out something GREAT this weekend for all of you!!! Thanks again!!

Our recent vacation to Cozumel actually worked WONDERS on my nasty feet. Here’s what they looked like the night before leaving on our trip:

Each night in Cozumel, I performed a minor surgery on my foot, cutting off loose pieces of skin. All the sand and moisture keep peeling back layers of my foot. Here it is after a few days as the layers are “shucking” off:

Once I got back home, all the layers were gone. Sure, this still looks a little like hamburger, but it’s the best my foot has looked in weeks!

After the 12 mile run in my last post, my knee got pretty sore. My GOOD knee. Carolina John totally hit the nail on the head when he commented about not hurting my “stabilizers” on that rough, uneven, snow-packed trail. I couldn’t walk up or down stairs without really limping. So I iced that night (I should have iced right away after the run), and I figured I should foam roll it too.

So you know what that means?...

Out came the EVIL FOAM ROLLER:

I spent about 10 minutes on the roller. Then I iced for about 25 minutes. Finally I heated it by the fireplace for 15 minutes (until it was red). Today, it feels a little better.

Oh, and that uneven run busted up my toe a little too. My second toenail is sore and purple:

Lying in bed 2 nights ago, I could feet my heart beat pulsing through that toe. Weird. And it wasn't a "sexy weird."

3 days until the half marathon!!

Mmm ... nice feet. Glad I gave myself time to digest my lunch before viewing. Good luck at the race!

The waiting was hard, but worth every moment. You've transcended yourself. YOU are the photographic PICASSO of the FOOT....

In "Songs for Drella" John Cale (or is it Lou Reed? has to be one or the other) describes Andy Warhol starting out by drawing pictures of shoes for department store catalogues....

I guess you've done him one better, or at least given him a good run (pun intended), even if he gets more FAME....

That could change though, since you're definitely SUPERSTAR quality....

Better sense of humor, too....

Marathon Maritza 2:52 PM, January 21, 2009

My feet seriously get like that too. It's kind of manly on a guy, but so NOT cute on a girl....

Perhaps it's an excuse for a beach vacation though!

jen 2:54 PM, January 21, 2009

I have a very similar storyline playing out on the outer side of my big toe. Callus, shuck, hamburger, repeat.

I have a file/buffer thing that I use to even out the hard patches when my foot is dry. Obviously not when it is wet/soft. That's shucking time. This is a gross conversation.

Jess 3:02 PM, January 21, 2009

Goodness, that was disgusting! We all need to chip in and buy you a pedicure! Blech.

K 3:16 PM, January 21, 2009

Please please PLEASE place a warning at the top of your "hamburger foot" posts. My lunch is coming back up. Yuck. And shave those hobbit-like toes will ya?

triguyjt 3:23 PM, January 21, 2009

thanks....I was beginning to think we had to remove "Gross" from your blog name....haha

Unknown 3:23 PM, January 21, 2009

I really wish I knew what a "sexy weird" feeling felt like when it comes from my toes.

C 3:39 PM, January 21, 2009

It had been awhile. Thanks for correcting the oversight.

Good luck this weekend!

Marlene 3:40 PM, January 21, 2009

EWWWWW.

But I wonder if I can convince my hubby to take me to some hot beach for some foot maintenance.

Anonymous,  3:44 PM, January 21, 2009

seriously....ewww!
but the kids were in awe of your foot photos, again

trigirl82 3:45 PM, January 21, 2009

Ewwww! Hahaha. I must say, those are some nice blisters you have going on. And by nice, I mean disgusting. Haha. My feet are disgusting, much like yours, and I love that you post photos of them. Even if it makes me gag. Ha!

Melissa 3:57 PM, January 21, 2009

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I've been lurking here for a bit and love your photos and writtings. Um....very gross blister photos. The photos haven't been that bad in the past but today's photos are awesomely bad. Nice job!

Michelle 4:17 PM, January 21, 2009

It's the kinda thing where its so gross yet you can't look away!!! So, yeah your feet are kinda gross!!!

GOOD LUCK DUDE!!!

The Boring Runner 4:35 PM, January 21, 2009

YES! Blisters are your feet's way of reminding you that you ran hard.

I was wondering to myself if I would trade feet like that for the ability to be able to run 5 minute miles. Hmmmm, possibly.

Shoot, I'd let both feet look like that to qualify for boston!

Jen 4:37 PM, January 21, 2009

Has anyone ever told you that you are "not right"? :)
Ewww!

GoBigGreen 4:56 PM, January 21, 2009

Good boy! Now the evil Foam Roller relly is your friend. kind of like the ice bath, hills, the Trigger Point roller ( now that sucker hurts)

Cant wait for the race report sorry it is gonna get cold by saturday:(

Charisa 4:57 PM, January 21, 2009

perhaps we should trade foam rollers - mine is not evil :)

teacherwoman 5:08 PM, January 21, 2009

Seriously, dude?!?! I have a hard enough time dealing with feet, let alone feet covered in blisters and such! yikes!

Lindsay 6:09 PM, January 21, 2009

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Correction, I know I did. Foul.

Bootchez 6:58 PM, January 21, 2009

YES! Loving the foot photos -- the "shucking" one is particularly interesting. The improvement you've made while away is very impressive as well. Good luck on your upcoming race -- hopefully that won't interfere with the healing you've done. I'm sure we'll see more photos if the unfortunate does happen . . .

joyRuN 7:02 PM, January 21, 2009

Oh dear God.

And STILL with the hairiness!

Unknown 7:30 PM, January 21, 2009

have you ever thought of going in for a pedicure? it might help your feet...but even if it didn't, I'm sure it would provide for some comical blog material. ;-)

Run For Life 8:01 PM, January 21, 2009

Thank goodness, I was missing those foot pictures. :P Hope the legs feel fresh by race day and that the foam roller doesn't eat your entire soul.

Anonymous,  8:11 PM, January 21, 2009

Oh the foam roller; we have a hott date tonight. I named mine Hector; it seems to make it more enjoyable when he has a name.

Kevin 8:24 PM, January 21, 2009

I nearly vomited look at those pics.

You think the foam roller is bad, try trigger point.

Calyx Meredith 9:13 PM, January 21, 2009

Egad! Your feet are shockingly large and disgusting on my screen. It was almost worth it, though, to get to see your foam roller picture!

Kelly 10:36 PM, January 21, 2009

You need some better warnings. That second photo almost made me puke at work!

Anonymous,  11:13 PM, January 21, 2009

But to paraphrase Winston Churchill, "Some photos! Some FOOT!"

Try it, Mr. Borsch. Maybe you'll win a prize, too.

Only don't COUNT ON IT, because we all know YOUR foot isn't GROSS the SAME WAY....

That way is RESERVED for STEVE IN A SPEEDO, GROSS! Often imitated, never replicated.

Jealous, aren't you?

I may be nauseated, but I'm LOYAL!

Sarah 11:58 PM, January 21, 2009

I love, love, love the foot photos. Keep them coming!

Julianne 12:16 AM, January 22, 2009

O.M.G. That is seriously SO gross. Eeeeek. I can't believe I scrolled down to see more. I am seriously a masochist. Confirmed!

Gerry 2:18 AM, January 22, 2009

Thanks for your help! Will try out your advice and see how that goes. I keep losing count when doing laps in the pool! I'll let you know how it all goes (I am assuming of course that the world actually cares...haha)! All the best for your race! Go get them! - I realise there's a ridiculous number of exclamation marks in this one longwinded comment

Shannon 5:32 AM, January 22, 2009

I think I just threw up in my mouth!

Born To Endure 7:54 AM, January 22, 2009

That's sooo hawt right now..LOL

Maria 8:37 AM, January 22, 2009

Hope the foot and knee feel better by the half marathon!

Dont give in to the evil roller, I know you're a fighter!

Marcy 9:25 AM, January 22, 2009

Dude, you're going to have to start shaving your toes too :P

Anonymous,  9:58 AM, January 22, 2009

ummmm, have you ever considered plucking those random hairs on your toes?!

Crabby McSlacker 10:34 AM, January 22, 2009

I'm going to have nightmares about that evil foam roller. Accck!

I used one of those things exactly once and decided I'd rather have my ITB tie itself in knots than go through that again.

CoachLiz 11:02 AM, January 22, 2009

Ugh! That "shucking" photo was kind of revolting. But this is what we have come to expect from you and nothing less! I'm surprised that you have not purchased one of those Ped-Eggs that they hawk on TV along side of the Shamwow.

Keep foam rolling and keep icing. Good luck this weekend.

Vickie 1:32 PM, January 22, 2009

Hmm. I used to have feet that looked bad like that, but not that bad. One thing that worked for me was this stuff you can get for bed sores. You put it on your feet at night with socks and after a few days it heals almost entirely. I once blistered and bled through my shoe leaving me with a big ugly gash in my foot. Using that stuff, it cleared up within a few days and I could run a 14 mile run with no bandaids even. If you can't find that stuff, which I can't remember the name of, Desitin (the white baby butt cream) works next best.

RooBabs 4:04 PM, January 22, 2009

Man, if that's the price you have to pay for being a fast runner, maybe I'll stay slow. Those are some spooky feet. But thanks for sharing the pictures- it always grosses me out and makes me laugh.

Oh, and the part where you talked about warming "it" by the fire, at first I thought you meant the foam roller, and then I realized you meant your knee. Ha ha, I am so dense!

Anonymous,  7:43 PM, January 22, 2009

Steve, for the love of God, please do something about your photos. A warning space, spoiler, and link if possible. Otherwise, I will feel compelled to start posting close-up photos of my zits in the comments section. Thanks.

Jen :)

Alisa 8:51 PM, January 22, 2009

Man that is gross...BUT...I still think I have you beat. I just can't seem to bring myself to post pictures of my disgusting feet.

Glad to know mine aren't the only toes that suffer!

Dave M 10:03 PM, January 22, 2009

My wife often comments on how rough my feet are. If I show her this post, I'm thinking she'll never say another word about them!

But seriously, Steve, how can you run so fast and/or far with feet in that condition?

RBR 11:17 PM, January 22, 2009

There is seriously something wrong with me.

I do love the blister photos.

I think I need help.

Melanie 5:14 PM, January 23, 2009

My feet look like that pretty regularly, too. I go get a regular pedicure to help, but if you're not up for that go to the store and get a PedEgg (As Seen on TV!). They're like $10, and if you use it right after a shower when your skin is kind of soft it'll get a LOT of the skin off that is ready to come off.

LHE 8:25 PM, January 23, 2009

I still think you should have your toes waxed.... LOL?

MHelphrey 9:04 PM, January 29, 2009

That looks like it may hurt for a couple of days. No pain no gain right?

Keep up the great work on the blog as well.

sRod 7:28 AM, January 31, 2009

Dude, how do you run with feet like that? Forget that. How do you walk or drive or kick sheets off the bed?

Anonymous,  12:23 PM, February 25, 2010

This has to be the nastiest thing i have ever seen. Clean your stupid feet and put some cream on it.
