One Last, Fast, Hard Swim Before the Tri Tomorrow

>> Saturday, March 07, 2009

Thursday night, I figured I should hit the pool for one last swim to get ready for the Indoor Triathlon tomorrow. I talked with Andrea, the swim coach at the Y, and she said that 10-15 minutes of hard effort wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I wanted to make sure I remembered how to swim hard and fast - the indoor tri consists of a 10 minute swim, so I’ll need to be spot-on during those 10 minutes. Anyway, here are my 100 yard splits from my short, hard swim on Thursday:

1:26
1:32
1:34
1:36
1:35
1:35
0:47 (50 yards)

- That’s 650 yards in 10:08.
- Which is 594 meters.
- Which means I SHOULD be able to get 23 lengths in a 50 meter pool (575 meters) in 10 minutes during the triathlon.

I’ve been watching my swim progress since I’ve started doing triathlons. I’ve done this indoor event at the beginning of the last 3 years:

2006: 15 lengths (375 meters)
2007: 19 lengths (475 meters)
2008: 21 lengths (525 meters)
2009: MAYBE 23?!? We’ll see tomorrow!!

So stop on by tomorrow afternoon to see how I did along with the 5 triathlon virgins that are doing this event with me! I can’t wait!

p.s. 1:26 is my fastest 100 yards so far (by 2 seconds). Sweet!!

p.p.s. Remember on Tuesday when I snapped one of the pads off my aero bars on my 3 week old bike? Well, the bike shop replaced the pads yesterday. No problem. Good as new.

p.p.p.s. Pharmie took care of those unwanted patches of hair on my back last night. I'm smooth on at least one side of my body for the triathlon tomorrow!!....

Oh i hope it is going well! If you ever come to masters you will swim faster...just cuz you have people nipping at your heals...or people to chase...like in a tri!
Hope it goes well!

I went to blow a snot rocket yesterday during my run and ended up looking like that kid. SO GROSS! If you do get sick do not try doing the farmer's blow. Not a good plan.

Hope you survive and have a good race.

Man, you were already twice as fast as me on the run, now you are almost twice as fast on the swim! Bugger! (And that is bugger, not booger. I will get to that post next.)
