Kids These Days

>> Thursday, November 21, 2013

Did you hear the news? Kids are getting slower. About 30 seconds / mile / decade. Here's part of an article from Mail Online:

Researchers analysed 50 studies on running fitness between 1964 and 2010 that involved more than 25 million children in 28 countries.

They gauged cardiovascular fitness by how far youngsters could run in a set time or how long it took to run a set distance.

The researchers found cardiovascular endurance declined significantly during the 46 years.

Average changes were similar between boys and girls, younger and older children, and across different regions, although they varied country to country.

The study is the first to show that children’s cardiovascular fitness has declined around the globe since about 1975.

What did they find out?

Today's children have a cardiovascular fitness 15 percent lower than their parents did at the same age.

They would also run a mile around 90 secs slower than children 30 years ago could.

If you think you're slow, just wait another 40 years. You'll be a speed demon.

p.s. I'm totally kidding. There's a problem with sedentary and overweight kids these days. But if they DO keep slowing down, we'll seem faster. By comparison. Yay us. But again, I'm just joking.
