A Morning 5K for My Boys!

>> Saturday, June 01, 2024

Kirt G told me about the "Officer Scott Patrick Memorial 5K" about 2 months ago, and he said there were lots of giveaways and my boys would love it. So this morning, my boys and I checked it out! It's just south of St. Paul in Mendota Heights, and it was easy to get to.

Charlie wore his top hat again like he did for his Get in Gear 5K.

Lined up to start!

The boys took off together.

Henry asked if it was OK to "just" run with Charlie. I thought that was a GREAT idea! Charlie wanted that too! (And it would be good being Henry just did the Brian Kraft 5K five days ago.) But that only lasted a half mile or so, and then Henry apparently took off.

The 2 leaders came through within a few seconds of each other just over 16 minutes. (And one of them was about Henry's age!) Then the bearded guy who beat me by a few seconds at the Spirit of White Bear Lake 5 Miler came through in 16:57 (see more of him in the race photos from that 5 miler):

With another speedy kid on his tail!

Then Henry came running past! He looked rough, but was happy with his pace on a hilly course:

About to finish in 23:10 after starting easy with his brother!

A bit later, we saw Charlie coming with a new race buddy:

High five from his bro!

Running off together.

Headed to the finish! In about 34 minutes.

Henry won one of the "smaller" drawings (there are a LOT of them), so here he is with $100 to a local car wash place:

Yoink! I'll take that! :)

We stuck around for another hour because they had drawings of hotel stays, Twins 4-packs of tickets, etc, etc, and then they ended with a bunch of 55" TVs. Really! But the boys didn't win any of those. But they went home full of post-race snacks, soda, and pizza.
