Bad News: I was sick yesterday. It was similar to a poem that I posted over 2 years ago where I had this infamous line:

It was a sad, sad sight: I had horrendous squirts!
It felt like the cast of Sesame Street was parading out of my ass, complete with Ernies and Berts.

But in no time, I was better. And by “no time,” I mean “after 11 hours of pooping liquid.” My butt hurts.

Good News: Because all of you voted, I was voted the #1 “Sports Endurance Blog of 2008!” There were 1028 votes cast, and a good chunk of them were cast in my diretion. Thanks for the votes everyone!! More on this shortly...

Bad News: In my “Speed Saturday” post a few days ago, I mentioned that my watch battery died. That’s sadder than it seems. You see, whenever I went to the “Chrono” mode, it would tell me “81 free” laps. But it’s a 100-lap watch...

Well, I erase every workout once I have it recorded, but I never had the heart to clear my splits from Ironman WI 2007. For the past 14 months, I’ve carried those splits around on my wrist like a little badge of honor. I’m a sentimental schmuck like that. But now that I’ve had to replace the battery, those splits are gone. And it makes me a little sad. Now, I have 100 free laps for the first time in over a year...

...and do NOT go suggesting that the only way to get it back is to do another Ironman. Not now. So don’t go there. ;)

Steve,

Sorry to hear about your Ernie and Berts and I hope you don't have to sit on one of those donut pillows. Don't worry about being a geek with your splits on your watch. I have my IMAZ splits one one Polar and my Clearwater splits on there as well. I have my 1/2 IM PR splits on my other Polar as well. We will be geeky together.

On another note, from your friendly personal trainer, when you do your Crossfit push-up and sit-up workout you need to do your push-ups with the mat under your hands so that it is perpendicular to you rather than horizontal to your body line. You are keeping your hands in too close so that you can keep them on the mat. When you focus on push-ups that recruit your pectorals and chest you want your hands slightly wider than your shoulders so that when you bring your body towards the floor, you have a nice 90* bend at your elbow with the wrist and elbow joint in line with each other.

If your focus is on push-ups that recruit the triceps then you can keep the hands in closer and more in line with your shoulder joint. As you bend your arms you will keep your arms and elbows tracking along the side of your rib cage with the elbows aiming down to your hips.

Have a great day!

Liz

Liz, your TOTALLY right. Someone mentioned in my last post that my head is dropped too far too, and they're right as well. It's amazing how much you learn about your form when someone snaps just a few photos of you doing your thang. I'll fix everything next time - or try at least...

ncrunner12 9:09 AM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on winning the 2008 endurance blog award, you've done a good job with it and deserve it.

Sorry to hear about the watch, I have the same one but still at 100 free, haven't had anything to log yet.

Glad you're feeling better, keep up the good work.

Darcy Franklin 9:29 AM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on your win! You deserve it!

Thanks for the invite on Sat but I will be at the Crossfit gym......maybe you should come check that out. You can sign up for an initial free session.

I am otherwise taking a break from the track for the season and trying some new training methods. If one of your track sessions happens to work out, I will be there!

Jess 9:36 AM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on your win! Sorry to hear about the chocolate shotgun.

trigirl82 9:48 AM, November 18, 2008

Sorry about the excessive pooing episode. That's unfortunate...

Anytime I do a race (IM, marathon, etc) or long training session I hate clearing the data! Not that the proof is completely gone, but still. It's oddly satisfying to scroll through my watch and think "I just ran for 4 hours today.. Awesome!". :-)

I love your blog, congrats on the win! :-)

Brooke 9:49 AM, November 18, 2008

congrats on bribing I mean earning so many votes ;) glad you feel better

ShirleyPerly 9:58 AM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on the best blogger award! Ernie and Berts are part of the reason we love you :-)

nwgdc 10:12 AM, November 18, 2008

You know, you could always get those splits back by doing another...oh.

Just finished reading your post.

Never mind. :)

Mel-2nd Chances 10:34 AM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on the win! YAY! sorry about Ernie and Berts and the splits... i won't make *that* suggestion, even that's what i would have said. :)

Unknown 10:36 AM, November 18, 2008

Well, the only way to get those splits back is to... ;-)

Congratulations on the big win. I hope you feel well enough to enjoy it.

C 10:54 AM, November 18, 2008

I feel your pain with the angry colonic activity. So not fun.

Congrats on your win!

akshaye 11:12 AM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on the award! Bummer about the watch.. you need something with a rechargeable battery (and then you need to do this all over again)

B. Kramer 11:44 AM, November 18, 2008

Well, at least you won a meaningless award. That should make the excessive squirts and lost splits better.

Chic Runner 12:11 PM, November 18, 2008

1st off, sorry to hear about your squirts.. Yucky!

2ndly, Glad you won, now you must run in a new costume! ha ha, okay okay you don't HAVE too...

3rdly, even more sorry about those laps being lost. I do that too, and I lost a bunch of workouts on my ipod with my Nike+ when I had to get a new one. :(

Ms. R 12:26 PM, November 18, 2008

Good news: Congratulations on the bloggie award! Woot!

Bad news: I'm sick.

Good news: It's not the hershey squirts!

Donald 12:30 PM, November 18, 2008

Well done, Steve. Congrats on the win. Keep up the great work!

Anniversary Moments 12:53 PM, November 18, 2008

What a bittersweet post - congratulations on winning on the web at least - aren't you supposed to have some kind of acceptance post now or something??

sorry about losing your splits -- that truly is devastating!

Nitmos 1:01 PM, November 18, 2008

Well, I forgot to vote for you but it didn't seem to matter. That was a butt kicking blog vote.

GoBigGreen 1:01 PM, November 18, 2008

Hi Steve,
take care. it seems everyone is sick with some sort of upper or lower GI deal. I do plan to do the thanksgiving run at como, and maybe a track workout should the weather allow. IF you havent figured it out, I really dont like to run any sort of fast ( defined as..faster than feels natural!) when i am cold:(
Glad I live in MN, sometimes...

Darcy Franklin 1:17 PM, November 18, 2008

That's how long it took me to do that workout. As I was doing it, I was thinking that if I had knockers like Catra, I wouldn't have to go down so far on my push-ups. Well, I don't and since you are supposed to hit your chest on every rep, I had a very long distance to travel. Hard workout. THose last two sets of situps sucked.

Ms. R 1:19 PM, November 18, 2008

Mr. Fury and I are going up to the cabin this weekend for Lumberjack weekend. So, instead of intervals, we'll be doing some log weight training!

tfh 1:32 PM, November 18, 2008

Whoa, total landslide! Congratulations.

Glad you're feeling better.

Charlotte 2:26 PM, November 18, 2008

Congrats on the big win! You earned it! Now, thanks to you, Sesame Street will be forever ruined to me. Ah, who am I kidding? I love that show.

Shannon 4:00 PM, November 18, 2008

Congratulations on the best bloggy thing. Next year you and I will be neck and neck. j/k

Sorry to hear about your "Johnny Trots." BTW, I thought I was the only corn ball that hung on to splits.

Running Through Time 4:19 PM, November 18, 2008

Congratulations on winning the 2008 endurance blog of the year. You deserve it!

Missy 4:21 PM, November 18, 2008

Congrats, Steve! Yep, yep, that's what the watch means, it's an omen, time for another Ironman. So many to choose from for 2010!

J~Mom 4:56 PM, November 18, 2008

Oh ouch! Hope you heal up soon!

Anonymous,  4:56 PM, November 18, 2008

Congrats! On the blog of course.

Smithers 5:09 PM, November 18, 2008

You should try living in Taiwan...something about oily Asian meat (hehe) and white rice for almost every meal makes it hard to "stay together"...if ya know what I mean. It is just not right...I feel your pain.

Congrats on the Blog win!

Anonymous,  6:24 PM, November 18, 2008

Hope your bottom is feeling better. Sorry to hear about the watch, I am the same way. Congrats on the blog.

Michelle 6:34 PM, November 18, 2008

Congrats bro!!!

Excellent news, and no i do not mean your 11 hour pooping session!! I am surprised, though that you didn't document it with photos...you know so we can all see!!!! UGH!!!

triguyjt 7:08 PM, November 18, 2008

joyRuN 8:52 PM, November 18, 2008

Lucinda 11:52 PM, November 18, 2008

Hope you feel better soon Steve, eek, like real soon!

Congrats also, not on liquid land, but blog of endurance!

RunBubbaRun 5:37 AM, November 19, 2008

Congrats on your best blog award.

I think to be able to put your IM splits back on your watch, you might need to do another IronMan. Just a thought.

Sonia 10:25 AM, November 19, 2008

Very happy you won the title! Your blog is always very entertainting. Especially with all the TMI stuff lol

Hope you feel better now.

Amytrigirl (aka Amybee) 10:39 AM, November 19, 2008

CONGRATS on winning Number One!

I voted for you and was very confident that you'd take the prize.

This Saturday won't work for a track workout, but I swear, you'll see me soon.

Cy 11:51 AM, November 19, 2008

Congrats on the big win. Seems like you had it in the bag from the start.

I think I will try that Push-ups/sit-ups combo...That should fit very well into my off-season training.

Bill Carter 11:51 AM, November 19, 2008

Congrats due. You totally deserve it after some of those race outfits. I still have nightmares where the reaper is after me and I'm totally bonking.

Glaven Q. Heisenberg 11:56 AM, November 19, 2008

Wait! This just in! Thanks to FLORIDA, it turns out that, though you won the popular vote, you lost the electoral college by a mere TWO VOTES!

I'm kinda torn over this, because it means that, somehow, my blog won ...

I promise to reign as a uniter, not a divider.

Try not to be bitter. Maybe they'll give you the Nobel as compensation.

If you lick the watchband to your old watch again, maybe you'll have a vision that will make accepting this loss easier for you ...

Seriously, it was always a foregone conclusion that you'd win. But I voted at ya anywayz.

Michelle 7:30 PM, November 19, 2008

congrats on the endurance blog win! I'm pretty sure there are openings left for IM Louisville....:)

Dori 12:34 AM, November 20, 2008

Congratulations on your win! Isn't there a way you can download your splits to your computer? That way you'll always have them. You could even print it out.

Triteacher 7:19 PM, November 24, 2008

Woohoo! Best Blog! Thank you for the laughs!
