A New Track Workout

>> Monday, March 04, 2024

After an easier treadmill workout 2.5 weeks ago and a good track workout 1.5 weeks ago, it was time for another nice track workout. The weather permited a trip to the St. Thomas track again, which was a good way to start March!

My YWCA Endurance Sports coach posted a workout for their Thursday indoor workout, and I thought I might give that a try:

(600 is 3 laps on an indoor track, but I'd be doing 1.5 laps outside.)

I've done the occasional 600 as part of some sort of ladder or pyramid workout, but never just a SET of 600s! This was all going to be new to me. My 800s the week before were all under 2:40, so that same pace is just under 2:00 for a 600. So I told myself to keep them all under 2:00, and try to drop them as much as possible. Here were my splits (400 and 200 splits added up for my 600):

1:18 + 0:39 = 1:57.3
1:18 + 0:38 = 1:57.4
1:17 + 0:39 = 1:56.7
1:18 + 0:38 = 1:57.2
1:17 + 0:38 = 1:55.6
1:17 + 0:38 = 1:56.4
1:16 + 0:37 = 1:54.7
1:17 + 0:37 = 1:55.0

Ave: 1:56.29 / 600 ave

It wasn't the PERFECT descend like the week before, but I was still really happy with this workout. I really hit #7 hard, but then I was a little gasseed for #8 (but only gave up 0.3 secs from #7, so that's good - and was still 1.4 sec faster than #6). This was a simple and decent workout.

Split #2 was still in my warm-up, but then the rest of the splits clearly show the 600s.

Looks like nothing special here.
