A NORMAL Week After Three Big Weeks... FINALLY!

I kind of surprised myself with a huge training week 4 weeks ago: partly because of a long birthday ride, and then I added some extra workouts as my family left for a trip without me on Friday afternoon.

Then the following week (3 weeks ago) was not surprisingly big as my family was gone for the first 4.5 days of that week, so I PLANNED on getting a few more workouts in.

But the big surprise was still having a big week 2 weeks ago - that ended up being my 3 biggest weeks of training EVER in my Garmin, and as back-to-back-to-back weeks!

So then FINALLY I had a smaller / more normal week last week. Whew. I was ready to “tone it down” a little. Here’s what it looked like:




The first thing to note is it was NOT A BIG BIKE WEEK like the few I had in mid-March (where I put on 206+ miles outside over 3 weeks, with the first of those weeks being 101 miles by itself!).

• MONDAY was a long treadmill run and good legs. We had gotten some snow and it was a bit slick, so I stayed inside.

• TUESDAY was a good swim and some nice upper body.

• WEDNESDAY was another treadmill run (an April 1st blizzard!) along with good core and legs.

• THURSDAY was a decent trainer ride (4x10 min efforts) with some good upper body after that.

• FRIDAY was some intervals at the track (more on this tomorrow), some good legs and core, and an easy ride along the river on my MTB to loosen up the legs in the mid-afternoon.

• SATURDAY was decent upper body and a short trainer ride. I was OK with this being shorter, as we had a kinda busy day (fencing, swim meet, birthday party, going to a friend’s house, and some shoe shopping for me in between the moments I was being a taxi for my family). I could have pushed more to get in a longer workout had I wanted, but I didn’t want. :)

• SUNDAY was just some core and walking. A nice rest day!

So my “intensity” minutes from the last 4 weeks look like this: my 3 biggest weeks ever, and then a slighter-smaller-than-average week:

A smaller Wednesday and Saturday last week made it a more average week.


Again, last week was more normal, but the 3 before that were my biggest.
