Two Fun Updates on My Boys
>> Thursday, January 23, 2025
I recently posted 2 fun things on social media...
First was this update about Henry along with these pics:
This smile is right after Henry’s first ever “direct elimination” win in a fencing tournament! So proud of him!
In case you don’t know how fencing works (like me prior to 18 months ago), a tourney starts with “pool play” where the field is split into X many groups of 5-7 fencers who all take turns fencing each other within the pool to determine overall ranking. So Henry had 5 other boys to fence (first to 5 touches), and he won 3 of those 5, which was also his most ever. Also worth noting is his difference in touches: last year, he was commonly -20 or worse after pool play, and today he was POSITIVE for the first time ever (+5). That number is the touches Henry scored minus the touches his opponents scored against him.
After pool play, it goes to a standard direct elimination bracket. Henry’s pool play ranked him high enough for a BYE in the first round, and then he won in the 2nd round (first to 15 touches in 3 rounds of 3:00 each, where Henry won 15-11 after 8:59!)!
He’s come so far in a year, and is still just a small 8th grader holding his own in high school tournaments! Today he finished 11th out of 35 overall!!
Our family with Henry's aunt and cousin.
And here was a quick fun thing about Charlie:
If you drive past Green Mill on Grand and Hamline, look up to see Charlie.
And yes, that's his style. He loves wearing that suit and cap to church. :)
Stop back for some "Friday Funnies" tomorrow!
