I Ran on a Tuesday, and...

>> Wednesday, November 26, 2025

I believe August 13th of 2019 is the last time I ran on a Tuesday. I spent a few years running Tues, Thurs, Sat, and then I got injured on that run and spent part of that upcoming winter in a boot. Then when I started back to running in March of 2020 (yes, when Covid hit), I started running on Mon, Wed, and Friday. And I've been doing that ever since: Monday long run, Wednesday easy, and Friday speed day.

(If I have a weekend race, I either race on Saturday and skip my Friday run, or I race on Sunday and skip my Monday run. And if I know I'll have a big/busy Monday, I might do my long run on Sunday and then take my 2 rest days as Mon and Tues instead of Sat and Sun.)

The reason this happened is that I'm doing a "Turkey Trot" tomorrow to kick off Thanksgiving! So if I plugged this upcoming Thursday race into a normal week for me, I would probably run on Monday, race on Thursday, and then not run again until Monday - only 2 runs for the week. But instead, after feeling good after Friday's interval workout, I did my long run on Sunday, an easy pre-race run on Tuesday (yesterday), and then a 5K Turkey Trot Thursday (tomorrow). That's a normal "3 run week" for me. AND if I'm feeling OK post race, I can still get in a few easy miles to "flush out my legs" on Saturday before kicking of the next week on Monday again. So I might end up ADDING a day if I feel good. (Or I can skip that day if my legs feel a little crappy yet, and have 3 rest days post-race to recover before running on Monday again.)

Sunday morning's long run did not disappoint. Well, it WASN'T fast, but I got to see a coyote up close and personal, and the sky was on fire as I crossed the Franklin Ave Bridge to start my cool down:

And then yesterday, I did an easy 6 miles with 3 "pick ups" of a minute each in the middle:

See the "pick ups?"

I HAVE NO GOALS FOR THIS RACE other than to not be super slow. I'd love to break 18:00, but I actually don't know if that's possible now. My last 5K 6 months ago was a 3rd best lifetime at 17:18, but my summer was not good for my running - I've been slower since. So I'm aware that 5:48s (or 2:54 half mile splits) will put me right at 18:00... I might try to hold that? I don't know. I don't really care! Just going for a fun run (that I hope I can at least turn into a "tempo training run") before pigging out for the rest of the day!

I'll be back with some Friday Funnies, and then a race report sometime after that! Happy Thanksgiving!!
