Help Me Rid My Body Of Hair!
>> Tuesday, June 26, 2007
So I have this problem. It’s a little personal for some of you, so I apologize if this gets a little intimate for anyone.
Here I go: I have a lot of body hair. There. I said it. Phamie has never really liked it. I’m frankly a little annoyed with it myself. I’m not SUPER hairy, but I have new little patches that pop up now and then. I always said that sometime in July, I would get rid of it. All of it. In the name of IronMan. However, I’m afraid of something like this happening:
(Side note: the behind the scenes footage from the shooting of that scene is great as well. I love the back-to-back clips that show Steve Carell saying other possible naughty words. Check it out below.)
So, back to my issue, I would like some outside help. I don’t need help in physically removing the hair, but I would like advice as how to go about making this body of mine smooth. I’m afraid of waxing. Pharmie once tried to wax 2 little sections of my back, and I broke out HORRIBLY the next day (we called it my case of “back herpes”). The thought of waxing my chest frightens me. Shaving doesn’t sound too appealing. I’ll maybe shave my legs, but not my chest. I like the idea of Nair, but I don’t know if it would be too harsh on my skin. Maybe I could just tweeze each individual hair...
I just don’t know the best thing to do. I would love to hear from you. What have you done that has worked well or has worked poorly? I don’t want a lot of pain, and I’d like to keep the irritation to a minimum. I’m BRAND NEW at this. Please help. Thanks!

What kind of wax did you use? If you used the regular wax with strips, try hard wax instead. Its a lot less irritating. If it works good for bikini stuff, you would think its "gentle" enough for your back or chest. Definite "no" on chest shaving. I just bought mr allez some nair to try for his, instead of shaving. He hasn't tried it yet.
The cream hair removers worked like a charm for me. I once had an accident with wax and got stuck to some silk sheets. We were so pissed but, I had to sell a huge amount of property and I could'nt look like Wolfman Jack's legs ha ha so, I had to use nail polish remover to get it off.It was an fing disaster ha ha ha You got any funny stories??? Annette
Fashion is pain!!
Allez's right, the hard wax is less irritating. Although I use to wax my legs with the strips and it worked out fine, it just got to be too much trouble with letting it grow out enough to wax. It was hard to time things around my events when I wanted to be "smooth" :-)
Anything is going to be irritating at first, even shaving. I can't speak about the back hair because I am one of the lucky few to not have any and when the aliens come I WILL get to board the mothership first because of it :-)
I say, shave the legs, wax or Nair the chest and back. Give yourself time to get use to all of it.
I think the guys in the 70's had it much easier :-)
Well, you know what they say: it hurts to be beautiful. So, get waxing! Haha.
But, seriously, I don't know whether you would want to get professional waxing, as I imagine they would be at least somewhat gentler than the Japanese woman who made Steve Carrell scream, "Oh, Kelly Clarkson."
Otherwise, you could, as others have mentioned check out cream hair removers. All hair removal processes are a little irritating at first... but pick one and get used to it. Although I wouldn't recommend shaving. That can get prickly.
Good luck!
You can do a pretty good job by using an electric razor to trim out the bulk, then a handheld razor and some shaving cream. It's mostly a temporary solution; my legs were stubbly after a few days. But it's good for races.
You probably don't need to be baby-bottom smooth all the time, so if you shaved once every week or two it might keep a nice low-level of fur. Or just let the cat eat it off.
Here's my story:

I'm starting to lean towards professional help on the upper body, a slight "trim" in the middle, and a good ole' razor to the legs. I'm still open to thoughts.
I really want to hear that Nair will work all over, not be painful, and not leave a nasty rash.
It's called Nair pretty soft peach hair remover cream. It left no cuts or razor bump rash. I got the most expensive wax before (purple shit) and it sucked. I then switched to the Nair along with about 40 friends. It works like great and smells pretty good too. It's good for legs. I have no hair on my face, chest or back ect.
I dated quite a few stars from the US and other countries. They like to go to get it done or use the cream so,the skin looks sexier so they say ha ha Good luck. Annette
No suggestions hear, but to buck up and just rip it off.. The only thing, doesn't it get thicker when it comes back?
"Pain is your friend"
I did listen to an episode of ironmantalk.com podcast about this topic. For real.. I'll see if I can find it for ya..
"Kelly Clarkson!"
Now you're in my territory! I'm dark-haired and fair-skinned and have tried every possible combination of hair removal available to humans.
First, regarding what RunBubbaRun said... no, it doesn't get thicker when it grows back, if you wax religiously it comes back thinner and finer and eventually grows slower too.
Don't bother with home waxes - they are much harsher on the skin than the stuff a professional has available. Their technique is also much better and doesn't hurt nearly as much as doing it at home. (I have my waxer on speed dial. She's a magician that can do an almost painless bikini wax.)
If you've already broken out from waxing then even a professional might not be able to help (my husband is as furry as Steve Carrel and broke out horribly when we had his back done, even with an expensive professional job) BUT I'd still consider giving it a shot since they really do have superior products to what available OTC, and you might be just fine. Consider dong a small test area before going all out.
If you've already proven your skin is sensitive enough to break out from home waxing I'd say stay clear of the Nair type products. They are harsh chemicals that can actually burn and discolor your skin (I've learned this from experience - hence the waxer on speed dial), especially if it's fair and/or particularly sensitive.
The big solution many of us are wishing we could afford is laser hair removal. You could still shave the legs and have just the chest/back lasered. It's not cheap, but in the long run it's less expensive than years of buying products or having wax appointments. (To give you an idea, I spend about $100 a month on waxing; if I get my face lasered it will be a total of about $1000 and is essentially permanent). Something to consider if you really want to make the wife happy about the fuzzy back. My husband is going to do it as soon as we can swing the cost.
The men from Jalisco,Mexico are very sexy. I went out with a few famous ones. Not all of them have as much hair because, it is very warm there so they don't need it. They look younger than other men too. One I dated I forced to show me all of his paper work. I said you don't look a day over 17. He said but, I am. I said fing liar!! He showed me the paperwork and I called the Govenment. They said no he is 38 like he told you. The warmer the climate the less hair they need. They are so lucky. They look great. They get good tans too. I wish I was that lucky. Did you find a good hair remover?? Annette
Siren is right, the professional stuff is much better than the OTC stuff. I failed to mention, when I waxed my legs, I would go to the beauty supply place and buy the same stuff the salons used. Maybe that's why I had good luck with it. Allez use to laugh at me going to the beauty supply because I had one of those dicount cards LOL!!!

What a hot topic! :-) Sally's has salon "quality" wax. I've done a better job doing my own waxing than I've gotten in the salons. Plus it saves alot of money. And I don't have to assume the not-so-modist position on my hands and knees...
If women can use Nair products down there...I can't imagine you couldn't use it on your chest/back, unless the skin's extremely sensitive. Best of luck!
AGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH KELLY CLARKSON!
Ok, so I have used Nair and other such cream hair removers. They work well for me. Just be careful where you put it.
