On Wednesday, I found an
Oregon Trail simulator online. And HOLY CATS, did that take me back to a simpler time in life!
Yesterday, just for fun, I thought I’d travel the trail with the 5 names of the five of us who are doing the Winter BeGone Duathlon this weekend. I thought it could shed some insight as to how we would do on Sunday. So I put in our names:

(Pharmie’s real name is Sarah, BTW)
We started out, and all was well. After a bit, Sarah was the first with a sign of trouble:
Steph REALLY got hit HARD. Here’s a list of what happened to her (and yes, she broke her arm TWICE):
Sarah broke her arm and became exhausted:
Matt’s condition started heading south:
And then the unthinkable happened:The rest of us made it to the end. You can see here that 4 of us made it to the end in “very poor health:”
Borsch and I made it through with no problems, but Matt sure had a rough trip - we had to bury him along the way.
Later in the day, I thought I’d try it again. Look what happened when we were trying to cross a river:
Yep, we lost Matt again. Matt, the river was like 4 feet deep! You could have just stood up! What the hell, man?!?!
At the finish, there were only four of us. Again.
Matt, maybe you should reconsider doing the race this weekend. If you still want to race, you need to be careful out there. If we ever pass over a little creek or stream, for the love of God, STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! Do NOT get near any sort of body of water!
Check back Sunday afternoon/evening to see if we all survived the duathlon!
isnt it supposed to rtain? maybe mattt should just stay home. you dont want him to look up and drown!
ReplyDeletesee you on sunday. i will be back later with my predictions.
OMG, that is too funny!
ReplyDeleteHow do you get two broken arms on a wagon train unless the wagon ran over your arms???
Good Luck this weekend and make Matt wear some amulets or something to ward off any danger.
Yeah Jeremy (trimybest), it IS supposed to rain, isn't it! Matt, you better watch out!!
ReplyDeleteOMG i was just talking about Oregon Trail the other day!! i loved that game and am so jealous you were playing it. poor matt :(
ReplyDeleteMy wagon always tipped over when crossing those damn rivers!
ReplyDeleteAnd 4 out of 5 is still pretty good odds :)
Hillarious - I actually think i played a similar game when i was younger. Good luck at the race.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a blast from the past!
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious Steve!
I have a 5K with some friends this weekend. Maybe I should do a predictor Oregon Trail run too. I hope I still remember how to play.
I loved that game when I was little! I always ended up with dysentery though. Didn't like that too much.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Thanks for making my Friday... Where did you find this gem?
ReplyDeleteMan that is funny. Poor Matt. Better wear his helmet extra tight on the bike this weekend. Thanks for the laugh.
ReplyDeleteAnd this moral of this story is...
ReplyDeleteDon't ever, ever let Steve drive you to a race...or anywhere else for that matter. Bad things, Brother. Bad things. ;-)
I really, really think you need to do this for every race.
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious! I always check in on your friday funnies, and that was the best!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I remember that game. I never got to the finish with my whole crew.
ReplyDeleteI used to love that game!
ReplyDeleteHave fun this weekend. I'm sure you will!
ReplyDeleteThat was great. It sure can't be a good omen for Matt. How can someone break their arm twice on a long trip like that and make it. She must be tough.
ReplyDeleteLOL! And I'm sure the laughter from my cube doesn't go unnoticed. Thanks! Matt's having a good run of bad luck there...
ReplyDeleteLooks like you were having a *little * too much fun with that! ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck to all on Sunday. Hopefully no burials!
The Oregon Trail! I'm pretty sure my parents still have it on our ancient computer. This made me laugh. Oregon Trail as race predictor...
ReplyDeletebut what went on his gravestone??
ReplyDeleteWow - Awesome! Thanks for bringing me back to 2nd grade. Sweet!
ReplyDeleteHaha, awesome. I have thought about downloading one of the games for old time's sake but haven't done it yet. It was so fun back in the day! I remember hunting was the best part. :D
ReplyDeleteGood luck this weekend!! Don't get cholera!
Hey I got to the point where it says I have to flip the diskette to side 2 to continue..but since I don't have a disk..it won't let me continue!! Help me!
ReplyDeletehilarious - hope Matt can pull through in real life!
ReplyDeleteCarmen - it's a button UNDER the "Oregon Trail" game. It says "change disks". Click that when prompted, and you'll be golden!!
ReplyDeleteHA! Playing this game is like the magic 8 ball of life. I could use it to predict all my big upcoming events.
ReplyDeleteHILARIOUS ! I am going to kill some time on that website. I still remember 'ford the river and cross it' when I was 10 and having no clue what it meant, but it always seemed like a good idea...
ReplyDeletehaha.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve! Well we all died:( Even my dogs and 2 cats who I took with me..apparently pets are not to be taken on the Oregon Trail:D
ReplyDeleteI think I hurt somethign from laughing. Good times.
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious. Sucks to be Matt.
ReplyDeleteWith his luck, he probably drowned in the rain, standing up.
That's awesome! I loved that game in grade school.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, oh my gosh this is absolutely hilarious! Poor Matt. I love all the screen shots.
