Four 1600s!

Tonight was the FIRST time that I did four 1600s on the track! It was a great workout from 8:30 - 9:30 pm! I showed up at the St. Thomas track as it was getting dark, and while football practice was going on:

I told myself that if I was finishing up the first interval and my legs felt OK (no heel or knee pain), I would do four 1600s, instead of my usual 3. Well, I was on the homestretch of my first 1600, and I felt OK, so told myself I HAD to do 4 (with 90 seconds of walking rest in between).

1. (2:49 + 2:54) = 5:43
2. (2:48 + 2:52) = 5:40
3. (2:45 + 2:50) = 5:35
4. (2:45 + 2:46) = 5:31

Average of 5:37.2

I snapped a photo as soon as I was done. The “vein of approval” in the middle of my forehead popped out to say “I approved this workout:”

Another great evening workout in the bag! Tomorrow I’ll lift weights, Friday I’ll run 7 miles (or so), Saturday I’ll rest, and we’ll be off to the races on Sunday!!

  5. I love track workouts when the football team is holding practice. I always run so much faster. I pretend I'm doing kick returns & I have to run for my life!

  8. Those are some fast splits. I would need more then 90 sec rest to complete them all in that time. The vein approval is great.

  10. Good thing the "vein of approval" is on your forehead and not somewhere else on your body.

  11. You didn't just do four, you negative split every one of them. That pretty awesome! I guess you are recovered from NO.

  12. I can not even comprehend that kind of speed for one 1600, much less repeated FOUR times!

I really am not even worthy of commenting on something like this. I just come to read your blog because I think you are hilarious and hot. ;o)

(Don't worry, everyone. I am pretty sure Pharmie is not threatened by a fat, old married lady from Cali)

  14. Steve,

Thanks for the tip on "mapmyride". I rode 14.2 miles today. After checking the profile I realize what I thought were hills are more like speed bumps. By the way, when you first started how fast were you? My natural pace seems to be in the 8 minute mile range, and wonder If I will ever be near aas fast as you... ( I haven't started any speedwork to mention yet.)
