• On Friday, I had my first real run in weeks. I’ve been doing events (or tapering for events), so it’s been 4 weeks since an actual training run. I went 5.5 miles on Friday in 35:53 (6:31 / mile). I felt great throughout, and I kept picking up the pace. I did the first half in 19:05, and I did the last half in 16:48 (super negative split!). My last mile was 5:54! I loved it.
• Last weekend I got to spend a little time with my nephew, Ian. I was able to entertain him in the backseat as we were driving to lunch (to celebrate his Daddy’s birthday). Look at how unbelievable adorable he is:
• Do you know what I LOVE?!? Papa Murphy’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It’s so freakin’ good! But do you know what I DON’T love? Chocolate chips. Really. So when I eat the dough, I always have a little bowl for spitting out the gross chocolate chips. I’m nasty like that:
(Side note: My Mom used to make chocolate chip cookies, and she’d make a few without any chips for me. That’s the sign of a loving mother!)
• A few days ago, I started transforming part of our basement into a workout room. Here are some photos:
Before: Well, I was too excited and forgot to take any “before” photos.
During: Basement cleaned, crap put away, ready to lay down workout mats:
After: 72 square feet of “Puzzle-Mats” laid down, 1 out of 2 trainers set up, sit-up board set up:

(room for a second trainer next to the one set up,
both facing the TV and DVD player)

• Borsch and I are SUPER EXCITED for the debut of “Team Tighty-Whitie” in one week. There’s going to be more competition than at the Cannon Lake Du that “Team Happy Pants” won last weekend, but it should be a BLAST. It starts out with a 3 mile run for me, then a 22 mile (hilly) bike for Borsch, and then I get to book it home on a final 1 mile run. (I can’t wait to just go nuts on that last run!) Matt, the other half of Team Happy Pants, will be there too, only he’ll be doing it himself - he saw last years results and is hoping to place as a Clydesdale. Stop back next Sunday or Monday to see how we all did!
• And finally, in 2 weeks, I’m excited to do this again:
That’s right folks, I’ll be cheering at the Twin Cities Marathon as a giant chicken for the second year in a row! If you’re running it, make sure to look for all of us farm animals! And come give the chicken a High Five!
I am the exact same way with chocolate chips and cookie dough! Once my friend and and I each bought a cookie dough "sausage" to eat raw. I ended up spitting out most of the chips. I always thought chocolate chip cookies without the chips would be a huge improvement!
ReplyDeleteLMAO at you as a chicken. Whatever inspires people though, right?
ReplyDeleteGet lots of pics of you guys and don't forget to get LOTS of the other half of Team Happy Pants ;)
Oh and duh, your nephew is SUPER cute and he has a great name!!!
ReplyDeletePapa Murphy's is a PIZZA place.
ReplyDeleteSo when you said that, I originally pictured chocolate chip cookie PIZZA dough.
::barf::
I just want you to know that Stronger came on my ipod this morning and instead of getting motivated I pictured you dancing in your grim reaper outfit. That song is a funny song now because I had to laugh.
ReplyDeleteLove the new workout space!!
Love the costume!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Steve..you crack me up. If I could spot you out of costume at Chisago, I sure should be able to find you at the TC marathon! It will be a little game for me as I am running called "Where is KFC!" This time we'll get a picture!! Can't wait!! See you in a couple of weeks! What is Pharmie wearing, or is she running it in??
ReplyDeleteSpitting out the chocolate chips is blasphemous!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate chip cookie dough, with or without the chips. Back in college, my 3 roommates and I made a whole batch of dough, and didn't make a single cookie (because we just ate the dough). And not one case of salmonella, can you believe that?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love the farm animal costumes. Wish I could come to Minnesota, just to see that. The Hubs and I were hoping to be there this weekend for the Vikings game, but it just didn't work out. Maybe next year.
P Murphs is probably the best ever in everything - pizza, cookie dough, cheesy bread, etc etc. AND my kid works there so we get it all 50% off. Sweet.
ReplyDeleteThere is something seriously wrong with a person who spits the chocolate chips out of the cookie dough. You need help!
ReplyDeleteWhat? Picking out the chocolate chips?! I don't know what to say. In other news, your workout room is coming along - looks like it's gonna be a fun little space!
ReplyDeleteMy grandma used to have a bowl of peanuts that I'd eat when I visited her. One day she told me, "I used to eat the peanuts as well, but now I just suck off the chocolate and spit out the peanuts." That didn't really happen. It's from a joke I heard.
ReplyDeleteNot like chocolate chips!?!?!?!?! I'm sure there is something way wrong with that!
ReplyDeleteOk and admitting that I have no real life  so I've been reading your old posts...I just finished reading the one about last years marathon, and as always, laughed my way through the whole thing!
Umm.. you don't like chocolate chips? What on earth?!
ReplyDeletemy g.f does that crap with chocolate chips also .
ReplyDeletei can't beleive I started reading your blog about the time of last years...costume chicken thingy..hilarious..
ReplyDeletethanks for making the year alot of fun...
props on the basement workout room...
don't forget to let pharmie use it
I have a friend running the Twin Cities Marathon... I'll let her know to high five the chicken :)
ReplyDeleteIf I make the race (still trying to find a number... shhhhh) then I'll definitely be on the lookout for a chicken that can run a sub-6 mile. Good luck on your races. Are you guys called "team tighty-whitey" for a reason?? Just wondering if you're going to outdo the Grim Reaper costume...
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone who eats the most random things like you do not like chocolate chips? The workout room looks nice. I'm a little jealous. And the chicken outfit....NICE!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate, any kind of chocolate. Okay, sometimes the chips can get a bit too hard if the dough is too cold.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe a year has gone by already. I forgot if I commented last year that your buddy in the farmer costume looks a lot like my husband's cousin...I did a double take last year! But it's not him.
The workout room looks like a great place to be in the middle of January with a couple of feet of snow on the ground.
ReplyDeleteGo Team Tighty-Whitie!!!
When I saw the chicken suit, I thought you were going to RUN in it! Maybe next year?
ReplyDeleteThat baby nephew is adorable :-)
ReplyDeletereally? no chocolate chips? i loooooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeee cookie dough ice cream, chips and all. it's part of my "fat kid" diet.
ReplyDeleteyour nephew is SOOOOOO adorable!!
ReplyDeletelove the chicken costume!!
do you not like any chips or just chocolate? cus pilsbury has one w/pbutter chips thats delicious. but then, i also like chocolate chips.
ReplyDeletethe farm animals are pretty sweet!!!
HA! A chicken, who would have known that was you!?! Have fun cheering at TCM and good luck at the next weekend!
ReplyDeleteIf it was not so gross I would say,"Save the chips for me!"
ReplyDeleteBlech! LOL
Your nephew is very cute!! =)
ReplyDeleteHave fun chicken man!
I will definitely look for you at TCM. Looks like you are on River Rd. right before going under 46th there? Is that where you'll be?
ReplyDeleteI can eat the dough with or without the chips. I don't think the chips add much to the taste.
i have a friend running that marathon, I'll tell him to be on the lookout for you.
ReplyDeleteYour nephew is adorable!
Have fun being a chicken again!!
ReplyDeleteI am the exact opposite with the chocolate chip cookies. I find the cookie part just gets in the way, so I mine the chips out. We should get together and share a cookie. :)
I'm running the TC 10; hopefully will get to see some farm animals for that?? :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked at Subway I used to smash like 10 chocolate chip cookies together to make one gigantic cookie. Except I would spend hours picking out all the chocolate chips before baking. Weird. Do you hate water chestnuts too??
