Someone created
a gallery of alternate covers for the current Rolling Stone magazine. It said
"Rolling Stone, here are a few suggestions for covers other than the Boston bomber that might've gone over about as well, if not better."In case you haven't heard (but I'm sure you have), many people are outraged that the bomber is on the cover and not survivors, victims, or emergency responders. It's been said that they're "glamorizing a suspected mass murderer." CVS and Walgreens (among other retailers) have refused to sell this issue that will hit stands today.
According to
USA Today, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino wrote to Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner accusing the magazine of offering Tsarnaev "celebrity treatment" and calling the cover "ill-conceived, at best," in that it supports the "terrible message that destruction gains fame for killers and their 'causes.'" The letter concludes: "The survivors of the Boston attacks deserve Rolling Stone cover stories, though I no longer feel that Rolling Stone deserves them."
It was ugly then, as it is now. It’s down there with their glorification of Chapman.
