GIVEAWAY: Great Book For Runners

First a quick update on my last giveaway about 6 weeks ago. That was the one where I was toplessly (is that a word?) wearing a Camelbak Vest that you could win:

The winner (Adam from Lesser Is More) sent me a photo of HIMSELF topless and wearing the vest once he got it:

Thanks Adam!

OK, on to THIS giveaway....

There's a fun little "coffee table" book that just came out called "1,001 Pearls of Runners' Wisdom:"

It's tiny, but it's thick - it's nearly 400 pages long!

Why am I always topless in giveaway posts?...

It's filled with short stories and quotes from runners or athletes. It's not something you'd just sit down and read for an hour each day. It's more of just a fun book you have sitting out that you pick up for a few minutes now-and-then. And it'd make a fun gift for that runner in your life.

The quotes and stories are split up into chapters such as "The Runner's Personality," "Women Only," "Running Form and Injury," "Training," "Racing," "The Marathon and Half-Marathon," "Motivation: Positive Thinking," and so on.

There's a chapter early on called "Why We Run," followed by a chapter called "Why I Don't Run." There's a great quote in the latter chapter that goes like this:

"Whenever I get the urge to exercise, I lie down until that feeling passes away." - Robert M. Hutchins, former President of the University of Chicago.

And then there's this gem from George Carlin:

"Have you ever noticed? Anyone going slower than you is a idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?"

And here's an interesting story from the "Women Only" chapter:

"Once I was out for a twenty-miler on the grass along the Parkway, but I was picked up by the police after three miles. It was raining and someone called and told them 'There's a crazy woman running...' They took me and left me off at the next exit." - Nina Kuscsik, on running in the 1960s

Well, I have FIVE copies of this book to give away! I'm opening up this giveaway from now through next Wednesday (July 25th). Here are the details:

TO ENTER TO WIN 1,001 PEARLS OF RUNNERS' WISDOM:

JUST LEAVE A COMMENT ON THIS POST!! Yep, that's it. Ba-da-bing: you're in the running to possibly win 1 of 4 copies of this cookbook. I'll randomly pick four comments to win.

I'm going to give the 5th copy away to a random person on twitter who follows me and sends out this tweet:

Fun little book GIVEAWAY on @SteveinaSpeedo's blog: "1,001 Pearls of Runner's Wisdom" - http://iwannagetphysical.blogspot.com/

Just follows me on twitter and copy / paste that tweet to be in the running for the 5th copy of the book.

Then check back sometime later next week (around the 26th or 27th) to see if I draw your name as 1 of the 5 the winners!

Legal junk:
- Open to residents of US and Canada.
- Just like in all of my giveaways, I've only been given these books; they have not asked or told me to say anything else. All of these thoughts are my own.
- When you leave a comment, please "sign" your name if you don't have a blogger account, otherwise it will be hard to figure out who you are if you're one of the winners. For example, say something like "It's Steve S. from St. Paul. Gimme that book!!"
- I'll assign all entries a number (for both the blog comments and tweets) and then use random.org (or other random number generating scheme) to pick a winner at random.
- If I can't get a hold of the winner(s) in 3 days, I'll re-draw for a new winner(s). So make sure to CHECK BACK early next week!

The publishers can ship to the US and Canada, so if you are from one of those places, comment now! Right here! And follows me on twitter and send out that tweet to have another chance to win! Do it before Wednesday the 25th. Thanks everyone!

  2. You know what I don't understand.
Running your heart out in a race and next to two runners chatting it up. Not out of breath and discussing coffee shop topics. "Hello distractions, trying to race race here, why don't you take the next left and stop off at starbucks to chat. Great, thanks" ; )

  3. This would be awesome! My quote would be, "Sign up for a race. Paying money to run is motivating to train!"

  4. "You people are crazy!" directed at a group of trail runners is still one of my favorites.

  5. I need more pearls of wisdom in my life, it's getting boring to listen to my brain.

  6. Hi Steve: From the number of topless photos you post, I'm guessing you live in a clothing optional facility - at least in the Summer.

If I win the book, I will treat it like royalty, and keep it in the throne room.

  18. I suppose if I win a copy of the book, I'll have to read it while topless, right? That seems to be the precedent set. Although I'm not sure Pharmie would approve of photo evidence....

Love the topless give away pics!
