Custom Energy Bars Giveaway

It’s July. And July is giveaway month. Two weeks ago, I gave away some Ryders shades and a Moxie Sugoi skirt. Last week, it was a New Balance “Anti-Stink” shirt. Now, it’s time for a delicious giveaway. And all you need to do to be entered is to comment with how you would make this the most delicious for you....

Element Bars are a new granola bar / endurance bar that is on the market. When you go to their website, you can build a bar that fits you perfectly. You get to choose from 30 natural and organic ingredients for your bars, such as blueberries, cranberries, cashews, and honey.

When you start building a bar, your first step is to choose a core:

As you can see, they note what bars are best for pre-race, performance, and recovery.

Then you go through and add any optional fruits, nuts, sweets, and boosts. The thing I liked about doing this is that the nutritional information for the bar that you’re making is always updating every time you add or subtract an ingredient. Here’s my bar near completion, and you can see the nutritional info on the right:

They also have bars that are pre-made. They sent me some different bars to try out:

Blueberry Repair, Cranberry Crunch, and Cherry Charge

Every bar has it’s nutritional info printed on it - even if it’s a custom bar you made yourself

I tried these 3 different bars, and they were all great! They have great flavor, and they’re “hearty.” Personally, it’s not something I’d use during an event (unless I were doing some sort of long 24-hour challenge), but they are bars I’d used BEFORE big workouts or races. They are filling, hearty, and full of good fuel for a solid workout / race.

So the people at Element Bars are giving one of my readers a box of 12 custom bars (over a $30.00 value).

HERE’S HOW TO ENTER TO WIN:

Step 1 (optional): to earn +1 extra entry: “Follow” my blog with Google Friend Connect. Find the follow button near the top of the right-side side-bar. If you already “follow” my blog, that still counts as an extra entry!

Step 2 (optional): to earn +1 extra entry: If you twitter, send out this tweet:

I just entered the delicious @elementbars giveaway on @SteveinaSpeedo’s blog - http://iwannagetphysical.blogspot.com/

Step 3: Comment on this post to be entered. Leave a comment about what kind of bar you would design. What would be in it? Why? Also let me know if you "follow" me and if you tweeted so that I know if I should throw your name in the hat 2 or 3 times.

Step 4: Check back next Monday or Tuesday to see if you’ve won.

See? Couldn’t be easier. Oh, but a little amendment to Step 3: You do NOT need to be a blogger to comment, but make sure to leave some specific info so you’ll know if you won. So you could say something like this: “Hey Steve, this John Smith from Topeka, and I'd make a bar full of berries! And I DIDN'T follow your blog, but I DID send out a tweet, so throw my name in the hat 2 times! Thanks!”

The fine print:
- Contest open to US and Canadian residents.
- You may comment now (on THIS post) through 10 pm Central time on Saturday, July 17th. The winner will be contacted late on Sunday or Monday.
- The winner will be chosen at random by a random number generator, drawing numbers out of a hat, or other random selection processs.
- Check back this Monday or Tuesday (July 19 or 20) to see if you won! (Especially if you don’t have a blogger account because I have no way of contacting you.)
- If I don’t hear back from the winner within 2 days after posting that they’ve won, I’ll draw another name and give the shirt to someone else.

Thanks Element Bars for the delicious giveaway!! So comment below with how YOU’D design YOUR bar to be entered!!! (And make sure to note if you earned any "extra" entries!) Thanks everyone!

  4. Hiiii! I subscribe to your blog on my google reader but I'm not sure if that counts. Anyway, here's a comment just in case. I would make something with a 50-25-25 CHO-fat-protein ratio. Probably involving blueberries and almonds. Yummmm. --Emily from STL, MO!

  6. Heya Steve,

  10. I'd make a bar without almonds. I can't eat them and it's actually not that easy to find bars without them!

  11. Where are the WIBA photos? That's what I came here for...(sigh!)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Cheryl, WIBA photos are coming soon! I have a few hundred to get through!!!....

  13. Followed, tweeted, and commented.

I'm actually excited to see these bars. I've got hypoglycemia + some very funky doctor-ordered diet restrictions. You try finding a protein bar with no soy or chocolate. It isn't easy! Well, until now it wasn't!

I'd likely get the a bar with the following:
    Pro fruity or oaty
    Apricots
    Cherries
    Almonds
    Flax
    Agave
    Whey protein

  14. I follow, I've commented, 2 entries please!

How would I make this? Crispy, lots of almonds, flax, some berries if I was feeling crazy that day, and love. I'm sure love is one of their ingredient right?

P.S. This would be a great present for me to win on Monday as a congrats on my first Tri on Sunday! Eeeek!

  15. I follow, I tweeted and I made myself a bar with cherries, blueberries, almonds, dark chocolate and whey protein. YUM ... I think.

  19. I follow you on Google Friend Connect, I've commented here, but I don't do the Twitter, so that's 2 entries for me.

My bar has lots of bananas because Katie doesn't like bananas. That way, I can be sure she wouldn't eat them. I hope she doesn't read these comments too closely...

    ReplyDelete
  20. I follow your blog via RSS feed. Not sure if that counts for an extra entry.
But I would go with Oatmeal, bananna, blueberries and other fruit.

  21. This is genius! If I had to make a bar, it would definatly be a recovery bar - I am in constant search for good post-workout nutrition that is both good and good for me. I would put in a ton of good protien, and mix it up with some sweet fruits, like blueberries and maybe a touch of banana and peach. Love it!!

I am Tweeting, and I also follow you in the side bar box - does that count? Thanks Steve!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Steve, I follow your blog (with the button thing) and I'm commenting, but no tweets, so 2 entries.

My bar would be a pro crispy with blueberries. And Matt's right - if there are bananas in them, I won't touch 'em!

I would let my hubby choose his bar ingredients if we won.
With so many options, I couldn't even start to guess what he would choose!
Lots of nuts and fruits though for sure!

  27. I just followed you! I would build a pro chewy with apricots, agave, almonds and whey protein.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm starting with the pro-crispy core, then throwing in a set of blueberries and bananas with some flaxseeds. To top it all off, I'm satisfying my sweet tooth with dark chocolate, pumpkin spice, agave syrup, honey, and cinnamon. Yeaaaaaa, I really like sweets. I rarely do solid bars during races but I'd be a sucker for these things a couple hours before a big race.

    P.S. I follow you.
P.P.S. That sounds kind of creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i would go a pro chewy core, almonds and dark chocolate. :)
