You Know You’ve Made it Once Someone Spoofs You!

Remember this from about 2 weeks ago? (Watch this if you haven’t seen it. It’s my 2 brothers-in-law and I cheering for the TC Marathon runners. I’m the rooster.)

Well, as they say, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Consider me flattered. Check out this video from the 2009 Des Moines Marathon this past weekend:

Direct link on YouTube.

I received that video from Tribeaner and Greyt Times yesterday. Tribeaner told me this: “We thought we’d bring your spectating style down here [from MN to IA]. It was AWESOME! The runners LOVED it!!”

THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN AT MORE RACES!!

Rules:
- Start with a dramatic pan showing athletes, pausing on costumed people.
- Costumes can be of anything you want, but the face must be covered.
- Play C+C Music Factory’s song “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”
- “Freak out” in a crazy and amusing manner.

This needs to catch on nationwide. No... worldwide! I want to see a TON of videos like this! We’d make so many athletes happy!! Come on people, bust out those costumes!!

(p.s. If you haven't read the short story I posted yesterday, it might be worth your while to scroll down and check it out. Good times.)

  3. Love it - I am looking for partners for a St. Louis race.

  4. Afterwards, we realized we should have put a sign up ahead of us that read "You are NOT bonking - dancing jungle animals ahead."

  5. I am so doing this. Now where can I get a costume????

BTW, I love the fact that you are promoting farm animal costumes AND your urethra in one post.

  10. Funny. I was just telling a friend about you and your farm friends this morning and how I thought it would be fun to do the same thing.

  15. I showed my friend your original video a while ago and he said "I'm totally doing that, but no dancing!". I like the dancing. Very very funny and cool.

  16. Oh! This video makes me very happy.

If somebody does this during the NYC Marathon they'll get a big ass hug from me.

  17. As we ran a race prior to the dance we should get additional style points. At this point in watching the marithon it hurt to stand. With proper taper and rest, I think I could take anyone.

  20. that monkey's got some moves.
i would love to see a bunch of barnyard animals run a marathon to C&C Music Factory on repeat and a bunch of runners on the sidelines cheering ;)

  21. Yes, you defenitely HAVE made it ;) Such a good idea!!

  22. I'm Greyt Times mom and I'd recognize the moves on that Panda anywhere! Steve, you need to come up with a catchy name or catch phrase for these routines.

  23. Oh please let it catch on! That is seriously fun. Thanks for starting the trend.

  24. I completely agree. this should be a requirement at all races worldwide!

  25. Hey, Running Elvises (Elvi?) caught on . . . why couldn't this? I would prefer dancing animals anyday over a running Elvis--and maybe even over THE Elvis. Just sayin' . . . it's a pretty spectacular sight.

I wish I was going to make it back to NYC for the Marathon--I'd SO team up with Regina! DARN IT!

  26. Okay, I found my C+C Music Factory CD. Now I just need 3 costumes, a good race nearby, and to talk two others into doing this.

  27. If you press play on both videos at the same time... you all start dancing at almost the same time :) Yeah, I'm really busy.

  28. I was at that race and totally thought of run as I ran by and high fived the animals. Way to be at the cutting edge of a trend.
