After 2 hours on the trainer on Saturday, I thought it’d be good to fit in a long-ish run on Sunday. So yesterday I headed out for an 8 or 9 miler. Spring was in the air! We just got 4-6 inches of snow on Friday, but there isn’t much ice out there, so this was my first outdoor training run without YakTrax in a while! So I headed out in the 18 degree weather (sans-YakTrax) for a nice, easy-ish run.
After a few miles, I realized I was keeping a decent pace (under 7:00/mile). So I figured I’d stick to it and try to speed up as I went along. I was hopping snow banks, running in the “bike lane” along Summit Ave at times, and dodging icy spots. But overall, the run was going well.
My last 3 miles down Summit Ave before turning for home were:
6:35 (mostly flat)
6:36 (some uphills)
5:47 (some downhills)
I finished 9 miles in 59:13 (6:35/mile average). And I had a negative split by over 2 minutes, too! I’ve NEVER done 9 miles in under an hour! It felt like a good, solid run!
In blog news, I forgot to mention something in my “IM COZ race course preview” post yesterday. That was my 400th post. This is number 401. Who’d-a-thunk?! I never thought I’d get so into blogging and enjoy it SO much. And you readers make it SOOO much more fun! Thanks everyone!
Congrats on the post milestone! Truly impressive. As was that 9-miler.

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 400. I'm surprised at how much I like blogging as well. But explaining it to people who don't, they must think I'm crazy. I'm all, "well it's like this little community and we all talk about different things like our workouts and races..." I just get a blank stare. Oh well. Thanks for the blog and keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteYou run was amazing. I hope to get 6-7 in under an hour one of these days. Someday...

Dude, you are crazy fast. I'm not sure I'm allowed to be friends with you. You could probably pick up 10 seconds per mile just being rid of my essence.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy fast. I'm not worthy. I'm having a smoking fast day if I can get 9 miles in under an hour and and 20 minutes. Again, I'm not worthy.
ReplyDeleteDang that is awesome. I'm going to get so jealous when reading all the blogs and not being able to run.
ReplyDelete401...that is awesome! Yes, please keep em comin' especially ones that contain funny videos of you dressed up in costume running (and blazin' by peeps) or posts of you and Pharmie's crazy 5 hour spin classes.
ReplyDelete9 miles in 59 minutes, I'm lucky if I get 6 in an hour. I love living vicariously through your speediness!
