Minnesota: winter fun for everyone!!
• I now have a matching pair of dead toes. My nasty 12 miler just over a week ago killed off a toenail on my left foot. And having to wear 2 pairs of socks during the race this past weekend killed off a toenail on my right foot. So I now have a matching pair:
• Last night, Pharmie and I did some intervals at the Metrodome. I ran for 2.5 laps, which is about 1502 meters. I was going to do 3, but I actually convinced myself to do 4! Here were my splits: 5:38, 5:25, 5:18, and 5:07. That's an average of 5:22/1502 meters, which is about 5:43/mile. Not bad for doing 4!
• My wife has been getting annoyed with me. Any time the temperature hits 5 above, I proclaim, "Hey! It's a heat wave!" Pharmie just scowls at me and says, "It takes at LEAST 30 degrees to be considered a 'heat wave.'" She's probably right. But, then again, it's Minnesota. Look at that first photo again...
• Pharmie and I both went for a 1 mile swim on Sunday (1800 yards). I think I posted my fastest time ever at that distance: 31:23 (that's 1:44.6 / 100 yards). Pharmie hadn't swam in a while, but she looked GOOD! New Orleans 70.3, here we come!
Those toes are hoooot, c'mon, drop em...Pharmie needs a rub! At least one of those bad boys is comin off.
ReplyDeletenice matching toes...lol.
ReplyDeleteMinnesota is a little far, but I'm actually planning on doing the Lifetime indoor tri here in Columbus!
ReplyDeleteAnd you should take some of that duct tape from the race and make sure those toenails don't go anywhere...
New Orleans=warmer weather than MN!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy bet is the nails stay on, what do I get if I win?
The top picture is a classic. Much more interesting with the trickle of nasal blood. Woo Hoo!
ReplyDeleteI think it's so great that you and Pharmie work out together like that. (And the fact that she's so into your dead toes!) I wish the husband was into running too.
ReplyDeleteyou should submit that photo to your local paper!
ReplyDeletenice job on the speedy dome workout & swim.
I've also killed off a toe-nail. My right big toe after a run through thawing slush years ago. Now at age 48, I have a ugly looking fungal toe-nail. Ewww.
ReplyDeleteLoved the cold weather race report. I shared it with some triathletes I know down south who think 50 above means time for layers.
I'm doing the Plymouth indoor tri in March. Good luck in yours!
Kicking things off with an indoor tri sounds like fun. my first tri of the year is in april.
ReplyDeleteNice foot photo. Long, prehensile toes. They'd look good in an X-ray. You should have one done, and post it. Steve's "Atomic Foot!"
ReplyDeleteOn close inspection: the damaged toes appear to be slightly longer than the big toes beside them. Is that a MUTATION?
It wasn't just coincidence. You know what they say, about sticking your head up in a crowd....
My only complaint is aesthetic. I realize that the backgrounds provide real-life context, but I think they detract fromn the grandeur of the foot itself....
Maybe you could use a satin pillow, or a piece of (real) Persian carpet or, if you're just too much the REGULAR GUY for THAT, with a SWEET TOOTH and GAS etc., you could use soft focus for the background....
Imagine how Dick Powell's foot would have looked in MURDER, MY SWEET, if he'd done it BAREFOOT....
Ironman NOIR, that's what I mean....
P.S> I notice Pharmacy didn't wager a FOOT rub. How come?
C'mon. After those photos I think Pharmie definitely deserves the backrub. Make it 60 minutes if you walk around the house barefoot.
ReplyDeleteWow - our toes almost match! Me - it's the third ones in... :) Great job on the 6.25 race - and yes, anything above 5 IS a heat wave. Have fun with the indoor tri - should be fun!!
ReplyDeleteWhoo hoo tri season!!
ReplyDeleteA little cold! Thanks for the duct tape tip too!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but neither 5 degrees or 30 degrees constitute a "heat wave."
ReplyDeleteAnd, it looks like you could fit a whole other toe in the space between your big toe and the second-in-command!
I've thought about doing the indoor tri @ lifetime too. I'm a member here in KC and they have been blasting about it over the loudspeakers for the last month..... I don't even swim!
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is right around the corner! I'm wondering why the wager wasn't a foot rub too.
ReplyDeleteI have similar toes issues...+ pinky toe nail is GONE! All of it--YUCK!
ReplyDeleteLook at those swim numbers! Great work!
Thanks for visiting my blog. My "cold" race was HOT compared to yours! You are a dedicated runner. Not sure I could have done it. But, there's a reason I live in Texas!!!
ReplyDeleteGood Grief, when you get to New Orleans you may pass out from the heat. And it will only be in the mid 60's, LOL.
ReplyDeleteYesterday here in Houston it went from 78 to 50 degrees in the span of two hours and then dropped down to 36 and was raining overnight. How's that for temperature swings?
your picture makes me feel like boston is as warm as florida! cripes! nice mile swim time steve!
ReplyDeletedamn......
ReplyDeleteI was gonna post a picture of my dead toe from the snow-50k...as a tribute to you...but...
now I see...
You kicked my arse....
once again...
Since so much already HANGS on those nails, and IRONMEN run for charity all the time, why not literally AUCTION them OFF....
ReplyDeleteSomething tells me I'm not the only blogger depraved enough to BID, and just one of those gems would fetch a FORTUNE on E-Bay....
For CHARITY, of course.... For ORPHANS and DEPRAVED PEOPLE, I mean DEPRIVED....
O.K.?
I can't get past thinking anything other than DEAR GOD!!! Crazy photo finish there.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are SO going to lose those toenails. Get the hands geared up for some massaging...
Congrats on signing up for the indoor tri -- my husband (a non swimmer for sure) is going to do the one at St. Louis Park.
ReplyDeleteI'm not doing it with him so I can be the adoring wife and take lots of pictures (to post on my blog).
Speaking of New Orleans (at least you were blogging about it), I am following a guy called Tri-ing fat man, who lives in NO. He weighed 452 lbs when he did his first tir several years ago. He doesn't any more.
He writes a pretty good blog and is also doing NO...you might check out his blog.
see you soon.

5 degrees. I can not comprehend that.
ReplyDeleteThe first picture ROCK! You do look better than Dolly Parton. By the way, lovely pix of the blood coming out of your nose.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to start training in sauna for the 70.3 by now.
You might be able to keep the right one. But no way that left one hangs on! Enjoy your back rub, Pharmie!
ReplyDeleteHad no idea what I may see on YOUR blog when the title of the post is Seven Nuggets. Was not even sure I wanted to open it...
ReplyDeleteTurned out, it wasn't so bad...just some ugly feet...and by now we are all used to THAT! ; )
Glad everyone is okay after the run!
Toes, icy faced photos, gross blisters, bloody nose...WOOHOO i never know what i will see when i click on your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it though!!! Keep it coming!!!!
Good luck with your training for the Half Ironman!!!!
I hope you don't have a dream where you are eating delicious raisins and then wake up to see your nails missing.
ReplyDeleteLF Triathlon. SERIOUSLY. THINKING. ABOUT. DOING. THAT. ONE....
ReplyDeleteI've seen toes like that. Dude you are an awesome athlete. Keep it up.
ReplyDeletethe guy from wellsphere also asked me to put my blog on there, and i told him no. i will go vote for you tho.....
ReplyDeletenice job on the swim.
My nonprofessional opinion is the left one is going to fall off, the right one will grow out. Do I get a back rub, too?
ReplyDeleteThat old man winter pic still freaks me out.
