...until my second-to-last interval. I hunkered-down into my aero bars at the start of that interval. My left “aero pad” shifted down a little under the pressure. I grabbed it to pull it back up, and it snapped right in half with a big CRACK.
Let’s recap:
- I broke my brand new bike.
- My pizza was broken.
After this current streak of bad luck with regards to breaking things, I figured the best thing to do was to go trim my pubes. JUST KIDDING!! That would have spelled D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R!!!! The morning news would have had this as its top story: “Local man bleeds to death through penis after horrible man-scaping accident.”
Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow (Wednesday) to see the rules for the “Tales of a Virgin Athlete” contest that I’m hosting. EVERYONE is welcome to participate, and I’ll be giving away $450 in prizes!! Ya’ll come back now, ya hear?!
Heck.. that is crazy. The bike I mean. No warranty for that?
ReplyDeleteIt should still be covered. I've had it for just over 2 weeks...
ReplyDeleteBetter the living room than on the road.
ReplyDeleteBuck up, the day can only get better after those two incidents. ;^)
sorry to hear about your bike and your pizza...i'm not gonna lie, i'd probably be more upset about the pizza!
ReplyDeletehope tomorrow is a better day!
Your pizza was broken???
ReplyDeleteOh my!!!
Please be careful eating pizza!!!
Damn that bike!!!
Sad! It better be covered by warranty, it's like brand new!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria though, I'd probably be more pissed about the pizza. =)
Tomorrow is another day!
Hey - maybe someone will send you free aerobars! Your luck seems to be going that way these days :)
ReplyDeleteAt least you know that the day could have been worse!
ReplyDeleteHope there is a warranty. Man that would be a headline for a late night talk show.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I almost spit milk on my screen when I read this post. So random, yet so funny!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww. SUCK.
ReplyDeleteOMG. That is so sad about your areo bars and pizza but the pub part had my loling. I have to meet you and Pharmie in NO! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I hate when a new toy breaks right away. Very sad post. Stay away from your private parts... bad things always come in threes, so be careful!
ReplyDeleteMuch better for them to break in the trainer than out on th road. At least you didn't have to worry about losing control and eating something worse than pizza... Seriously, sorry about the breakage.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Sorry about the streak of bad luck. I'm sure it will end soon though. Hopefully before you need Pharmie to de-hair your back again.
ReplyDelete"man-scaping accident" = too funny
ReplyDeletebroken new bike (and pizza) = too sad
Hope you can get the aero bars fixed quickly and easily and also that you got some dinner and your man parts remained safe. Your bowl full of sunshine shorts would be sad if there were nothing to put in them.
Thankfully, it's just the aerobar piece and not some forged piece of metal or extruded carbon something er other.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pube trim...been meaning to talk to you about that. Your pictures are very telling;)
At least you've got a good reason for not keeping up with the Mrs. :D
ReplyDeleteI'd be looking for a new set of bars after that - don't just let them replace the rest. Seriously.
that sucks! keep in mind it may not be just the pad that is damaged! the bar is carbon fiber and the pad moved because it was not clamped down properly. when it moved it may have wrecked the carbon bar if it scratched through the clearcoat. when they install a new pad make sure they check that out. if it is scratched badly then that could be disasterous! thats what happened to andy potts at ltf last year. also make sure they put some carbon specific grease on it for you. it has tiny plastic beads in it that will clamp it more securely. good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, bummer!
ReplyDeleteI guess that when your bike´s aerobar snapped Big Rhonda laughed out loud (wherever she is).
The areo bar thing, I could get past but the ruined pizza, that's just too much.
ReplyDeleteBetter St. Paul than New Orleans! I hope to see you there! Any outfits?
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible night!
ReplyDeleteI probably would've still eaten the pizza though. And died later.
Maybe you could use the cheese from the unused pizza to fix the areobar pad. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus sides - The break happened while you were on the trainer and not on the road (or worse in a race) AND the whole in the pizza was big enough to see so you knew it was bad...
ReplyDeleteYou're rubbing off on me, it's all about the upside now ;-)
that pizza would have ruined my night! i would've had to go out for some chocolate to soothe myself, which then would have the next outbreak of salmonella or something.
ReplyDeleteYeah, be thankful you were not out on the road when that happened. That could have resulted in a crash and more than just the forearm rest would have been broken on your bike.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have any funny or embaressing stories to offer up so I will leave that up to others so I can read and laugh at their expense.
Holy Crap Steve! Good thing you weren't on the road. Could have been ugly.
ReplyDeleteAs for the spoiled pizza, that's just bad kharma. What did you do kick a puppy or something?
If it was the last pizza in the box, then you really need to change your evil ways.
Kay, wasn't expecting the trim the pubes part. Very funny. Bad things happen in 3's so that was a very good choice to stay away from that area.
ReplyDeleteHope you get those aerobars fixed! Good luck!
Major bummer! You wait all that time to get a big boy bike and that's what happens!? Maybe it's a sign that road bikes are the way to go (I'm personally in the middle of the 'no, you don't need a tri bike' struggle, so it makes me feel better to say that)?
ReplyDeleteSteve! Breaking off parts of your bike without realizing your strength! Oh, I'm gettin' the vapors...
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the bike and pizza breaking. Glad to hear you didn't attempt any trimming down there.
ReplyDeleteWow, unbelievable that the aerobar arm rest broke like that on a brand new bike. Glad you were not hurt!!
ReplyDeleteDamn! If that aero bar had broken while you were on the road, you probably would have ended up looking just like the pizza!
ReplyDeleteHow the hell did that pizza get into the box that way? So weird.
