Remember, Steve...

(I have this post scheduled to automatically publish sometime during today's race - the Liberty Olympic Distance Triathlon. These are some things I just had to write down in order to have them in my head.)

You can only do 2 things wrong in the swim: start in the middle of a pack and go out too hard. So start to the outside for "clean water," and take the first 200 e-a-s-y. ANY effort early on is TOO MUCH effort.

Remember to put on your "Toe Caps" in T1! That easy run yesterday really made that torn-off-blister on your toe hurt - and it was only 2 miles. Crap. (Scroll down a few posts to this post to see what I'm talking about.) These won't save the day, but they'll make the race "survivable." Hopefully. (Yikes.)

Hammer hard on the bike. Sure, your split probably won't be as good as last year, but don't ease up! Check your overall average every 5 miles as a way to keep pushing yourself.

The run could get ugly, but keep your stride in check and just go all out. Between the beat-up toes and the lack of endurance, this could be brutal. But take a minute here-and-there to count your foot-strikes to make sure you're not striding too much. And remember, those 1-minute segments usually help to take your mind off the pain, too!

Finally, don't forget to look for Pharmie during transitions! If she looks like she's about to go into labor, it's because she might ACTUALLY BE GOING INTO LABOR!! Your child is due TODAY, so be ready to drop-out and take your lovely wife to the hospital!

We'll see if I can keep these plans in my head today! Back with a race report soon!

Is it wrong to hope for both a race report and a baby report?

Of course you had to make it to the race to execute those plans. Maybe at the next race.

According to my Mom, first babies are usually late, so you probably have some time before Steve(ette) Jr. arrives.
