What? It Makes PERFECT Sense To Talk About These 2 Items Together...

I have 2 "mini-reviews" that I'd like to do. I was not asked to do these reviews. These are just things I've been using that have been working for me. Just wanted to point that out.

First: "Toe Caps."

I bought a box of these about 2 years ago when I was training for Grandma's Marathon. I was having issues with dying toenails and pain in the toes while running. So someone at a local running store recommended Body Glide and Toe Caps. I "lubed" up my feet with Body Glide, and I "capped" some sore toes with Toe Caps. And you know what? That REALLY helped!! Here are my feet and toes before and after a 17 mile run:

Those middle toes cause me some trouble. They are a little "long," and sometimes things like this happen:

Fast-forward 2 years. I've been having a little problem with those middle toes again (mostly because I'm trying to break in new shoes). My right middle toe got really sore after a long run last week, and then it got even worse after a tempo run a few days later. So I busted out the 2-year-old, used Toe Caps. And you know what? They worked like a charm on my 12 miler 2 days ago:

So if you have issues like I do, go get yourself some Toe Caps.

"Like condoms for your toes, only non-sexual"
(Not their actual slogan, but it SHOULD be)

Second: "Drill" Sunglasses, from Ryders Eyewear

I've only had these for about a month, but I'm really enjoying them. I've already worn them for 2 major PR races:

Lake Johanna 4 Miler and the Human Race 5K

I figured Ryders would LOVE to see a shot of their sunglasses in a crapper:

Here's what they look like when they're not in the crapper:

I have a bit of a smaller face, and they fit me well. They totally stayed put for those to quick / hard races. I still have yet to try them on a bike ride, but I can't wait. They quickly became my favorite sunglasses. I still like my Zeals, but these Ryders seem to fit better and stay put a little better.

GIVEAWAY NEWS: Make sure to scroll down to yesterday's post (or click here) and comment on THAT post to be entered in the giveaway for a Sugoi saddle bag, Ryders Eyewear sunglasses, and Monkey Shake recover drink! (The giveaway is from a different line of sunglasses than my Drills shown above, FYI.) And make sure to vote in the "Fashion Forward Your Fabulous Fool" Contest. Those entries are hilarious!

The giveaway open to everyone closes on Friday, and the "Fools" voting closes on Saturday. Good luck!

I think I just threw up a little from those pictures. Thanks for telling about the toe condoms though, I have one toe that gives me problems but since I'm a girl I just paint it to hide it. LOL

SOOOOO, the pain in my toes and the fact that I have lost a toenail is from rubbing in my shoe huh?! You sold me on the toe caps and or body glide on the toes because I felt like I dropped a 50lb weight on my toe 2 months ago only to find out that I am losing my toe nail now. I thought I was a freak of nature with this injury!!!

Sold! I'm getting toe condoms for my flintstone feet. They looks like paddles. Great for swimming, horrible for running. I had given up on ever having nice looking tootsies ever again...

Ooooh, and nice shades ;)

Aw, how cute, toe condoms. Those glasses are hot!

Might have to try the toe caps out. Two of my toes have been giving me problems.

Steve-
I used to have serious issues with the second toe on each foot and through experimentation I used the toe caps (about two years ago) during a 6 day staged race. They helped a lot in the first two days, however once my feet became very sweaty or if I had to do a stream crossing, the water/sweat became trapped in the toe cap and eventually caused "pruning" of the toe. This led to an even worse situation where the friction mixed with moisture made me lose the nail and then develop a severe infection. Just FYI.
If you haven't read it yet I would recommend to everyone John Vonhoff's Fixing Your Feet book. It has guided me for two years into a practically blister free world. I have learned now how to tape those toes with two pieces of tape each using Kinesio Tex gold (http://www.zombierunner.com/store/categories/foot_care/tapes/product2297.html): one going from front to back of toe and the second from left to right. I also pair the taping with Injinji socks and a light dusting of either zeasorb, bodyglide powder, or hydropel depending on the running conditions. I haven't lost either of those toenails yet...even after another 6 day staged race across the Rockies.
I know each person's foot issues are unique but feel free to message me about the taping if you wish....I've had a hands on lesson from John which has made a world of difference.
