MN Class A State Meet 2009

>> Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Friday, Pharmie and I decided to go cheer on some family/friends at the Minnesota Class A High School State Track Meet which was being held about 3 miles away at Hamline University. We thought we would just bike, being we heard parking is nasty around Hamline. So we dug our mountain bikes our of the deepest, darkest corner of our basement:

Pharmie leaned up against the house to try clipping-in with her new Keens:

At the meet, we got to see United South Central (USC), our high school, easily make it to the finals in the girls 4x400. Here’s Ciara running the final leg for USC (she’s #6):

We also go to see Pharmie’s cousin Kate easily make it to the finals in the open 400 for Blue Earth Area. Look at her freakin’ stride!!

The next day (when most of the finals were held) was WET and COLD!! (Scroll down 2 posts to see my brick workout I did that day!) Here’s what it looked like Saturday:

I got there right away, because I wanted to see the USC boys 4x800 team race (I was an 800 runner in HS). And if you know anything about track meets, you know the 4x800 is always first. What a nasty day to race:

The guys ended up getting 5th in state!!

Kate got ready to race in the open 400. She had been complaining that she’s been running tight lately. We hoped for a good race. Here she is “shakin it out” before the start:

Kate came off the final turn in about 4th, but she just lost steam down the homestretch:

Here she is on the podium taking home a medal for 8th in state:

Nice job, Kate!

Ciara took 2nd place for USC in the 300 hurdles:

Congrats Ciara!!

Finally, it was time for the 4x400 relay. The USC girls were running this one, and my brother-in-law Mike is dating the 2nd leg of the relay team, Brianna. If you watch this, you’ll see that she had a GREAT kick to move USC into first place for about 300 meters:

You can see how close they were with a few other teams at the finish. The 4x400 team ended up 5th in state, and that was UNDER 1/10 of a second out of THIRD place! Those 3 places were really close!

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ON THAT CRAPPY, COLD, RAINY DAY!!

Back tomorrow with some fun stuff, a good “Friday Funny” on Friday, and an Olympic Distance Triathlon on Saturday!! (and Pharmie’s doing the Half IM!!) Wish us luck!

The cool thing about track meets is that no matter whatever the level is, they are still fun to watch.

I would love to watch a track meet like that live! It must have been so cool to see your friends/family competing. They all did awesome! I'm amazed by their form/strides.

Good luck to you and Pharmie this weekend!

Oh gosh, that rain and cold and wind remind me of my high school and college track days. Brrrr! But still fun to watch :)

Chad is right, track meets ARE fun. Although, the rain makes them a LOT less fun.

Everyone knows 800 meters is where it's at. I did 800 and 4x800 in HS.

Great pics. HS track is awesome.

Too bad about the crummy weather but that's great all your family and friends did well!
